Hello all
I worked in a factory for 6wks I had to leave because of bulling and it was badly managed (in the sense that the managers were poorly trained in people management etc)

I wouldn't have left but did because it was toxic and seems racist environment. More Eastern Europeans who seems not to want others (Europeans or Africans or any others there)

I reported an accident when I was new and was told they will let the manager know and the manager did call me and I confirmed the incident and she told me she will issue a warning. I did not complain in writing because I had told the person not to do what they did and just wanted to call the attention of management to her bullying thinking I will be there for longer and that if she or anyone else does anything I write and make it official. But just heard, the manager never issued a warning to the person.

Anyway, the stress and the atmosphere got worse and I left but then I want to call the attention of the manager (if he is not also involved) to what is actually going on and threaten to expose them and call the attention of their biggest client to the fact that the company is directly or indirectly encouraging racism and discrimination and bullying. Their biggest client is a well known household name in the England

I guess I am not happy I left a job I wanted to stay for longer than I did because of bullying

I just had someone still working there call me in tears tonight & that breaks my heart

My question is can I send an email to the manager asking him to call me to explain why he was picking on me & discussing me with other employees in my absence (he's been avoiding my calls for a week now). I will state that I am going to employment tribunal if he does not call & I will be exposing them their biggest client.

Does this make sense at all pls

Did you put a complaint in in writing to anyone to complain of bullying?

Asking as I worked somewhere for over 10 years but left after a new manager bullied me out. As there were no complaints on record about the bullying before I left (too scared I would be given worse treatment) I was told there was no action I could take against the company.

Their biggest client likely wouldn’t care much tbh. Maybe a journalist who could do an exposé about conditions? I think you need to stop calling the manager though, they will just turn it around and might start claiming harassment!

I’m sorry you suffered bullying, it really is hell being treated so awfully. Is your friend who still works there a member of the union they could speak to for advice? They could contact Acas for guidance but should start keeping a diary detailing dates/times& incidents as evidence.

Thank you very much. I will stop calling the manager and send him an email instead

I didn't put a complain in in writing I made it an unofficial complaint as I was new with the thought of taking it further or reporting formally if things don't change but I was never there for that long as I quite the job mid shift due to the toxic environment there

I would put a complaint in writing to the HR department of the company first and then see what the response is. You could contact citizens advice or join a union who can help you take this further and give you help constructing the written complaint and figuring out who to send it to.

StephanieLampshade · 08/11/2023 00:06

Really sorry this happened to you.

Make sure you prioritise yourself, health and happiness.

Jellycatspyjamas · 08/11/2023 06:59

I will state that I am going to employment tribunal if he does not call & I will be exposing them their biggest client.

The timescales for starting the tribunal process are very tight when you’ve left an employer so you may find that option closed to you. Have you sought advice from ACAS or a Union? That would be my first step.

crazywo · 08/11/2023 10:16

Only left the job last week so I think the deadline is not close yet right? I hope it is not close
I will call ACAS

StephanieLampshade · 08/11/2023 12:48

Call ACAS. Don't make any threats.

Youre really better moving on from this and finding people to vent to and processing the emotions.

Youre not going to bring this company down. But you can leave it behind you.

crazywo · 08/11/2023 13:26

Can one join more than one trade union? Just curious

crazywo · 29/01/2024 14:10

I hope I can still get a reply to this thread

So I wrote an official grievance letter and contacted ACAS too because the company was not replying to my letter. the company have just sent me a letter of their investigation

They are claiming that the times I have not come to work, I had not informed them that I wouldn't be at work - which is a lie. I had called all the time.

They said I was late on one occasion

They stated no one forced me to resign from my job and they have seen no evidence of bulling and discrimination. They also claimed that they had a meeting with me in person regarding my absences. I never had a meeting with anyone in the company about my absences at all.

They have written all false information.
I have in a haste replied briefly that I reject their outcome as it is all false that I have a record of my calls to the firm informing them I would not be able to attend work & that I want them to send me a log of all the days I didn't turn up for work.

What do I do now? I feel insulated by their lies & I feel like threatening them about whistleblowing to their major clients but 🤷🏽‍♀️

Suggestions/opinions pls

Hipnotised · 29/01/2024 18:22

I ask this gently (as a union rep) - what do you want to happen? From what I understand, you don't want your job back. You hadn't worked there that long and they're refusing to accept your points / complaints have substance..

Do you have any proof of the bullying? Emails from them saying no meeting re absence?

If not, I truly advise you to move on. As you'd only been there 6 weeks they can get rid of you and for your own sake, I'd be looking for another job.

Your friends who are still there should have joined a union and have raised these issues with their rep. Don't waste any more of your anger on a company that won't be thinking of you.

cansu · 29/01/2024 18:25

If you want to complain do it officially. Don't make threats to your manager. It won't help.

cansu · 29/01/2024 18:28

I agree that I don't know what you want. Did you raise any concerns about bullying while there? If you worked there for a short period you have little to gain here anyway. Move on.

MamaAlwaysknowsbest · 29/01/2024 19:03

I found this to be the case in all low wage jobs in the UK. The bullies ( especially if they are managers ) always stay and are being promoted. Just keep job hopping until you find something more normal

Toomuchgoingon79 · 30/01/2024 19:09

Kindly I suggest that you move on. Making threats to ‘expose them to their biggest client’ is most definitely not the way to go about handling a potential bullying claim. You’d only been there 6 weeks- how much time did you have off and how often were you late?
