Does anyone work as an EPC assessor?
I’m thinking of changing careers and my husband suggested this.
Is it a difficult role and how much can you earn?
Thanks!

Surprised you haven't had any answers to this. I can't help but had a vague interest in it myself through a connected job and would be interested to see responses, so bumping for you again!

It’s a race to the bottom on prices. Dp tried it and there were companies in our area charging £20 per assessment. Waste of money for the course.

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 05/11/2023 17:01

I had to call one out recent and she charged £60 for a 30 minute visit.
Maybe it’s not such a good idea then if that was your DP’s experience.
Back to the drawing board….

If you can get in with some estate and letting agents you should have a steady stream of work. We are in the north west and the guy we use at work charge £45 which is about standard round here. If you can qualify to do commercial EPCs that’s very in demand as not many people do them

That’s useful information. Thank you! 🙏

Hi,

not sure if you are still considering becoming an EPC but would be happy to discuss.

I noticed your reply about being an EPC assessor.

My husband is an EPC assessor covering domestic, commercial and on construction certification. He does have decades of experience in construction which is a great help.

I am based in the north west but wondering how much work there is, how to get a good supply of work and what salary it could be in the range of. The Internet says £25k to £50k which is a wide range. Any help appreciated.

I have a friend who works for an estate agent. They charge clients £100 per domestic EPC certificate but only pay the assessor £50 so they make a profit on each one.
I don’t think you can rely on client contact just from the government website of assessors and that you need to be chasing business from other sources especially commercial as they pay much higher rates (their assessments do take longer though).
Commercial landlords are liable to huge fines for not have an EPC.

Estate agent's (SE) wanted £250 for "their" assessor, found one online who was local £90

Many thanks for your replies.

sounds like fees can vary around the country and domestic are lower than commercial and agencies can take a big cut. I’m based in the NW.

thanks
