Changed my mind after accepting a job

I've been looking for work since May with no luck (its been very disheartening!)

So I applied for a role, that wasn't really what I wanted, but was kind of close.

That's all gone very fast, I had 2 interviews within days of each other and then they offered me the role the day after the interview (this was last week).
I verbally accepted and they want me to start next week.

However, I'd previously already applied for another role. The interview for that was today , which I did, even though I was thinking "Well even if they like me for this role, I probably wouldn't find out for a few weeks, so I'd have already started the first role, so I wouldn't be able to take it" ..

But they've offered me the role!

I'm now in a total dilemma.

I'm definitely more keen on job 2 - but I feel really awful about Job 1 having verbally accepted. So I image they've told the other candidates its a no - so I'm leaving them in the lurch?

Is that really awful to go back and now decline it? I feel guilty.

Don’t do anything until you have a contract in your hand. D fwiw lots of people start jobs then decide the job isn’t for them. Wait until you have the paperwork before you do anything. Companies can also change their minds

Do nit feel bad. do whars right for you. It's fairly common that people accept and change their minds.

Don’t worry about it, do what is right for you.

So much can go on that we just don’t know about - eg. 2 people are hired for a job.

They can easily get unsuccessful candidates back - 8 days after hearing I was unsuccessful I was pretty pleased to hear about a reverse and if someone did turn down a job then I’d be grateful to them.

Yes some small businesses might take it badly and say they’ll never ever consider you again but that’s their making. Better to decline however short notice rather then do a day or two.

This happens all the time so don't feel bad about. It's happened at my work recently.
They'll just go back to someone else they interviewed and offer them the job.

Go with the job that's the best fit for you
