Does this mean I've got the job?

I was made redundant in June from a business analyst role in which I worked in for 5 years.

I took a short holiday after that, I have been applying to some jobs after that and have had a few interviews but with no luck.

Last week I had an interview for software engineer role on a 18 month contract at my local police station. The manager for the role got back in touch with me a few days after and said that i don't have the exact skills to get started straightaway as it's only for 18 months the role doesn't have much time to be trained up in as it covers a wide range of services, however she told me about an upcoming role in the same team which she feels my skills are more aligned with.

Its a similar role and is a 2 year contract so there is more time to learn on the job and it covers less wide projects.

She told me that I will need to go through the application and interview process again, but she has asked me to get in touch if I have any questions.

The talent acquisition lead/internal recruiter emailed me the link to the role 2 weeks ago and he said 'we have to be fair and advertise this to everyone, but we would really like you to apply for this role' so I have applied for it.

The job post closed last week, and this week I got an email from the manager of the role saying the following: 'Just wanted to email so you don’t think we have forgotten – lots of folks off sick, or on leave at the moment. You will be asked to come for interview and probably week of Nov 13th - date tbc 😊
HR will be in touch'

What does it mean if a potential employer says that?

You're a frontrunner for the job but it doesn't mean it's 100% yours if you perform badly or if someone comes in with undeniable experience etc and is a perfect fit for the role, especially if an internal candidate.

But you have a very good chance so good luck and smash the interview again!

It means they'll be interviewing you sometime the week of 13 November. Confused

Changingplace · 30/10/2023 18:25

It means you’ve got an interview w/c 13th :)

It’s great they’re keen to see you but I wouldn’t take it as read the job is yours just yet - best of luck, hope your interview goes well!

GeneCity · 30/10/2023 19:01

Er, it means exactly what they said 🧐.

Good luck in the interview.

Caterina99 · 30/10/2023 19:15

Surely it means they like you and hope you perform well in the interview in November.

It does NOT mean that you definitely have the job in the bag!

Fingers crossed for you though OP

It depends who else applied really, they obviously liked you and saw potential if they've been so proactive in encouraging you to apply etc, but if there's someone outstanding with more relevant skills and interviews better then they'll get it. You stand a good chance I'd have thought but don't take it that you have the job, need to prepare for the interview as you would anyway.

AuroraForever · 30/10/2023 19:23

No you haven’t got the job yet. It means HR will be in touch soon to arrange the date and time of your interview w/c 13th November.

Olika · 30/10/2023 19:26

It means what it says. You have an interview.

Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 03/11/2023 07:59

It means they hope you do well in your interview as they can see you fitting well in their team.

Do not make the mistake of being complacent. You still have competition.
