Is this shitty of my boss or am I over thinking?

I’m currently taking a small amount of annual leave due to high stress levels. I discussed this with the staff psychologist before I went off, it was either this or go off sick.

The pressure at work has been unrelenting for months and I was recently dragged into an investigation at work. When I was told about the investigation it was sprung on me when I walked into a room with manager/HR/assistant and handed a letter. No idea before that. I’ve consulted with my union and looked at the allegations but these are easily disproved with email/phone records which I have.

However the whole thing threw me massively combined with the ongoing operational pressures and I had a mini breakdown where I literally couldn’t stop crying for 3 days. This is when I took my leave.

On the second day of my leave I get a “ping” on my personal phone which is tied to my work calendar. Boss has put in a meeting between myself, herself and HR on the day of my return. No context. No “don’t worry just a catch up” just the meeting invite labelled “meeting in x room”.

It has ruined my time off. I feel sick with nerves thinking the worse, I woke up at 5am with adrenaline just rushing through me. I tried ringing my boss - no answer. I pinged HR - no answer.

Essentially my leave has been ruined and I feel more stressed than I did before hand

I’m always very careful when I ask to meet with my direct reports adhoc to give assurance or context around the purpose of the meeting so people don’t feel anxious.

This is shitty behaviour isn’t it ?

As you are on leave and the manager doesn't know why then YABU

CharityShopHorde · 18/10/2023 20:17

Go on sick leave for a week or two. GP tomorrow be honest about how you're feeling x

WeeOrcadian · 18/10/2023 20:19

You're on annual leave, not sick - therefore the meeting, whilst possibly being some half-arsed attempt at a power play, seems reasonable given that your boss isn't aware of how you're feeling

Jammylou · 18/10/2023 20:33

Why is work linked to your personal phone ? Seems odd.

Brefugee · 18/10/2023 20:35

ignore the meeting request until the day before you go back and decline it, suggesting an alternative date on your 2nd day.
put an agenda in: "catch up after leave" type of thing

Unlink the phone. Your personal phone is yours and does not need to link to work. You need to be able to switch work off and you can't do this if your work is linked so closely to personal.
Do not go in to any meetings without a union representative with you. You can decline the meeting if your rep is not available.

I can see why it has unsettled you but I don’t think boss has actually done anything wrong on paper.
She’s put a meeting in your diary for when you’re back in - not called you on your personal phone to have an impromptu meeting.

However I will caveat that with - if there is a long standing issue between you and she’s known to leave meeting titles ambiguous to create anxiety then yes that is shitty in itself.

i have my work teams on my personal phone. So does everyone else where i work (we don't use phones as phones at all)

I ignore Teams when i'm not working
