Hi,

I worked under a recruitment agency last week for a company as cover receptionist, getting positive feedback which made my year. I have since received a message that I might like to try applying for a perm admin role the company have now got directly advertised.

As I was through a recruitment agent, would the company not get hit with a charge if they were to hire me? Or is it somehow get roundable.

Well done OP. If they get charged by the recruitment agency, that's their issue not yours. You aren't privy to the details of the contract between them.

It depends what the employers contract with the agency says but yes, there is usually a hefty fee for them to pay. That's for them though, not you.

But this is separate to the temp agency. This is a direct employee.

It’s been years but, I remember a company ‘bought me’ from an agency into the role I was temping in.

Sounds like this is a different role to what you were temping in and they’re suggesting you apply for it so they wouldn’t need to pay off the agency as this is just like you applying off your own back and Getting a new job anywhere.

Sounds like you’re a shoe in OP, will you go for it?

There is usually some sort of conversion fee to pay, but it really does depend on the contract between them. Either way it's not your issue to worry about, if you want the job go for it

Just be warned though - I've personally known this to happen on two occasions. The company tried to hire the worker without paying the Agency. On both occasions, they were caught out and rather than pay the recruitment fee, they let the worker go. This was a couple of weeks in when the workers had already started. And obviously the workers couldn't use that Agency again.

Leave the agency and take the job. I say that as someone who was in the very same position and met my now ex husband in said company and while I regret him I do not regret the experience of the job.

Leave the agency and take the job.

Thank you, is it as simple as de-registering / right to be forgotten?

The recruitment agency very kindly gave me a reference for the job I am in now.

I know another time the same agency tried to talk me into a 4 week assignment with another company, which I personally had already applied as a perm role advertised by the company directly prior to receiving the agent's call, I remember them saying that situation would have been fine that I could temp and apparently have my application direct, which I didn't kind of get.

I have done, I accept it will probably come with a caveat of being the receptionist stand in for 4 weeks of the year, perhaps I can save them some money that way but everything else I've picked for myself job-wise has gone wrong, what is there to lose.

The one temp job I was really scared to start, I'd never believe I'd be making an application. I really miss the people.

Definitely go for it. The only advice I would give is try to stay on good terms with the agency just in case you need them again, but it could also work in their favour if this company ever wants to hire temps and you recommend this agency.
