Hi!

I’m applying for a role as a data analyst. I have a relevant degree and relevant work experience of 1-2 years.

However I have around 5 years of experience in different fields, for example management roles, operational roles. Is there any point in including this information on my CV? I could twist it to fit, but I also don’t want to put the employer off by speaking about irrelevant things

Yes put in the key previous experiences that give you transferable skills suitable for the role you're applying for. It shows strength and and depth of knowledge and skills. Best of luck

Yes of course it's relevant. A previous management role is always going to look good on your CV and appealing to potential employers, even if the role you're going for isn't management, it shows potential. Operational roles are also very transferrable.

Thank you both. Sometimes I wonder if highlighting transferable skills comes across as clutching at straws? This role is really technical and I doubt my HR responsibility as a manager translates for example. Even if I attribute some of my decisions to data, it’s not the same as breaking it down and transforming it like an analyst would.

But being a manager shows you have a mature attitude, work well with people, can operate strategically, follow procedures make decisions. A whole load of skills you need in any job.
