Anyone have a job that involves London travel (from up north)?

Hello,

Im looking for ideas for remote working (with a salary of £50k minimum) that involve the odd trip to London. I’m up north. I have reasons for wanting to do this but mainly I want to leave the NHS as I’ve ended up in a really toxic place!! My mental health is suffering and, to top that, we are going through a restructuring process so I could end up down banded 2 grades (which I am furious about after all the hard work and studying I’ve done over the years).

My background is scientific and quality. Been an operational manager for the last 4 years so experience in all of that too.

I’m a keen traveller (including the UK) so looking at going in a do something to be at home but also go somewhere else (preferably London as I love it).

Any ideas?

Not personally but my daughter left the NHS in Manchester to do data science, could that be something you could do? . Salary is circa 45k but it's her first job outside of scientific research . Hybrid working with Manchester office. Was also offered a job with the CQC, interesting role, but less money. That was mostly wfh with the periodic stints in London from memory. I'm sure there will be something out there for you, just keep applying. Good luck!

Look at financial services - many companies have London head offices with outlying hubs dotted around the country, and there will be managerial/quality opportunities for the kind of salary you want.

What about UK Health Security Agency? You can find their jobs on civil service jobs.

WanderingNortherner · 02/10/2023 19:38

Yes, definitely something like - especially the CQC. I’m part way through my second Masters in Quality Management so not sure I’d be up for doing a data science course (which would probably be required). I’ll look into both areas though. Thanks!

I worked for them before (when they were PHE) but in the lab. I know that they have WFH roles so will check them out.

You need to factor in travel costs. A peak train ticket into Euston and return from the north west is nearly £400

theodozya · 02/10/2023 19:43

I work in policy in central government - based in central Manchester (with as much home/office working ratio as I like) but with regular London travel. Obviously paid for by them, not me!

theodozya · 02/10/2023 19:44

Oh and I’m on £53k.

Look at prison healthcare roles as some are regional and national latterly based from home with some travel. Try practice plus group as they have a few vacancies 👍

Zelda93 · 02/10/2023 19:55

Largely based from home ..

How about a global medical device manufacturer or supplier? Or pharma. Big on quality, usually lots of travel if you want it and remote work.

WanderingNortherner · 02/10/2023 21:49

I’m thinking of the employer paying any travel costs. I don’t mean going in every week. Just a few times a year.

I'm based in Leeds. Go to London about once or twice a quarter, but it's - "train - meeting - home "pretty much . About half the time I stay over, but networking with colleagues is expected.

Yes civil service. I work in HQ for a Govt Dept but work from home pretty much full time. I tend to go to London once a month with my travel costs and time covered.
