Signs you're doing well at work?

I'm 3 weeks in to my job in a brand new industry.

I'm suffering hugely from imposter syndrome mainly because my last job was a toxic hell hole and I've lost sight of "normal" onboarding and a "normal" welcome.

Are there any signs to look for to know if I'm doing well or not?

My last manager would just say "you're absolutely shit" to our faces even if it was a tiny tiny mistake so I don't have much to go on

The good news is that I find the work interesting and my colleagues are lovely.

Thanks!

Could you ask your new manager for feedback? Some people are comfortable with no feedback is good feedback but it sounds like you would appreciate some reassurance. Do you have regular check-ins where you could say something like ‘I’m three weeks in now and really enjoying the role and wanted to check in with you how you think I am doing.’

Thanks @MyView2 - my main issue at the moment that I feel like they're all too busy and I don't deserve their time

Which is a hangover from my last job (it was very bad!).

I always feel like a pleb when I email them for info.

Some reassurance is exactly what I need. I'll muster the courage

As a work noob, the expectation is there that you ask for help and support whilst learning your role. No one goes into a job knowing everything. You got the job because you can do the job. Hold that thought.

Agree with this.

I would absolutely start the conversation with this. It's good to give upwards feedback too, especially when its positive!

I did it! I asked and was told "you need to focus on one process at a time. You're doing great! It's a LOT to learn"

Then my colleague said "I've been here for 2 years and still feel new!" - so that was reassuring in a handholdy sort of way.

I just have such low self esteem. I'm not used to working with such nice and supportive people! 😊

Hate being the noob. I have a long long way to go!

Brilliant! Well done for plucking up the courage to ask and there you go, you are doing great and you’ve established a bond with someone who was feeling the same way.
