Less stress, more money yet feeling unsatisfied

Changed roles recently, far less stress, more money yet am feeling less challenged less accomplished less involved and a little more isolated. Previous role was high level involvement, more front line. New role is much quieter.
Am I mad that I am missing the high level involvement ?
Wondering if its just adapting to the change or maybe it's just not for me.

Me too......

Oh my god I could’ve written your post!

I’ve taken a new role without a team to manage, where I’m getting paid a decent amount more, with less travel and not as senior but despite the payrise I’m really not enjoying feeling I’ve taken a backward step in responsibilities :(

Glorifried · 15/09/2023 22:59

@Changingplace I love being a manager who doesn't manage anyone - can do without other people's crap at work!

Jammylou · 16/09/2023 09:55

I manage staff. That parts OK the odd issue here and there with staff behaviours but nothing I can't deal with.
Where I came from was front line so high involvement, constant demands on my time, was very stressful but a real sense of achievement.
New role systems well organised team do far less tasks, all working welll, not front line so nowhere near as demanding.
New role I'm earning alot more.
My family think I'm mad and say I should enjoy it but I feel so much less challenged. I know long term it won't satisfy me.
Don't want to leave the company as what we do satisfies me on a moral front. Good pension etc.
Do I stay in this role about a year and move again then if a post becomes available ?

Enjoy the calm for a while, maybe until January and then mention it in your next objectives meeting for 2024 you want to get involved more. But if you've been busy for a while just enjoy the mental break for a little while longer. Christmas is coming after all :).

Yes I think I will give it longer.
I owe it to my new team as they are a good bunch largely. I just really miss what I used to do the high level of involvement.
I just worry long term it won't satisfy me and I feel I need to settle into a management team and not keep moving around. Opportunities to move do come up from time to time.

I could've written your post too. 9 mths ago I left a high pressured job as a social work team Mangager. I've been a social worker for over 20 years. I've gone P/t at a local private school as a safe lead. Initially it was OK. But OMG. I'm so BOREd. The sg manager was so used to doing everything herself that I'm getting into work to find she has dealt with the staff, all the admin and the face to face work wirh the kids. Even on days I'm in.

I'm seriously considering going back to Team Manager roles.

Yes definitely resonates and similar environment.
I think I thrive off a high pressure environment and being closer to front line. Much more a sense of achievement.
I'm not saying what I do now isn't important or not contributing to improving others lives but it's further away. Its more preventative. More background.
Thing is before i was run ragged and earning alot less.
I will give it time but I can't help thinking I've made a mistake.

Worst case you leave and get more money externally. Your career isn't over because of this one career move.

Depends what you left for.
YANBU if you left for a better environment
YABU if the money was the sole factor.

I was once made redundant four wks into a job but they asked me to stay till it was all ironed out And I did because 7 years later I am earning the same as I did there.
Twiddled thumbs for a few months and sat back in silence as nobody talked there

No definitely did not move for the money. I'm on the same pro rata, just this role offers more hours. Was part time before.
I moved due to a number of factors however those factors now seem irrelevant.
One of those was I was working 10 hours over a week and not getting paid for it, I shared the management role so lacked autonomy and wanted to lead on key decisions however less need to make decisions in this role as very well organised and less issues.
It's just I feel less challenged and this may be my ego but less needed. Phone used to ring constantly now hardly ever rings. Team just get on far less issues raised.

I'd give it time to get used to the pace
I was entry level, been here 5 years. I process 2 orders a day and get called order processor with poor pay, no official prospects yet I make many important decisions and train several people . I'm in charge of millions in revenue

If I move to go up, I'll probably be somewhere less dynamic and fast paced
