Government contracting via Agencies - help!

I'm wanting to get into government contracting after 6 years working in a company providing software for gov, a short stint in local gov (delivering an IT project) and then 10 years in a national charity delivering projects in partnership with local and central gov.

I think I'd be a good fit for government contracting on digital / project management / project delivery.

I've restructured my CV to show the recent projects I've worked on and sent it to Hays and also to Public Sector Resourcing.

I got a call from a chap at Hays last week and he said he didn't have anything at the mo but he was expecting Sept to be busy so he could be in touch.

I saw one completely perfect opportunity (2 month central gov contract in the subject specialism from my 10 years at the charity). I applied and also emailed the recruiter expressing my keenness / suitability.

So far no replies. It's only been a couple of weeks, but, does anyone know what I should expect?

Should I politely chase the recruitment people to show them I'm keen?

Just keep searching their sites and applying for specific roles?

I'm worried not having formal project management /agile training & qualifications might be the issue?

Any other tips or places I should be sending my CV?

Thanks in advance!

Are you on LinkedIn? A contracting friend gets lots of offers there.

I am thank you @Yarnysaurus ... but I wonder if I need to join specific contracting groups on LinkedIn and the like.... that's worth looking at, thank you!

Good luck. You do need to be proactive and make yourself known to recruiters.

Most contractors in my dept come from specific companies so it may be worth applying to companies rather than looking for direct entry as a single contractor

Have you registered on the Public Service Resourcing site? That's how I got my last two central government contracts:

https://www.publicsectorresourcing.co.uk/

Public Sector Resourcing

Sorry, just read your post again, I can see that you have!!

I also uploaded my CV to sites like Indeed, Jobserve, CV Library and so on.

Thanks for the other agencies - I'll upload CV's to them too.

In terms of being proactive and making myself known to recruiters, is that just a case of emailing and phoning regularly to say "Hi, I'm still available" kind of thing? Any specific things I should say to them?

Thanks everyone!

There's absolutely no harm in doing that, but don't read too much into it if they don't seem that interested: you'll hear from them fast enough if they think they can place you somewhere. Best of luck 👍🏼

Thank you, I'm going to keep at it, but it is heartening to hear that it's not abnormal for them to sound a bit disinterested...!

Also, two weeks is no time at all in the public sector.
