Being signed off sick

Currently work in a school with SEN children.

My physical health is in tatters right now. I've carried on for as long as I can, but I need an urgent hysterectomy and can't continue working in pain.

How do you go about being signed off sick ? Just ask GP for sick note?

Thanks.

This sounds awful, I'm sorry you are going through such a horrible time. Presumably you are already under the care of a GP for the health problems? But yes, just say to them that you cannot continue to work in current conditions and they will give you the necessary paperwork.

You go to the GP. Explain what is wrong and that you're struggling with work. The GP may ask if there's anything that might allow you to carry on working. It is called a fit note these days because it can say things like "you are fit to work provided this adjustment is made.." eg. Part time. Office based only. That sort of thing. But if there's nothing or they think you are too ill they say you are unable to work. They also say how long for. So it might be they start with 2 weeks and it gets reviewed.

Ps. You usually have to self certify as sick for 7 days first.

Yes I'm under a gynaecologist. Everything is coming to a head and I'm struggling.

Currently looking at how I can fund a private hysterectomy.

Do I need to meet with the Head next week? He should be put in the picture. I really didn't want this to happen, I like my job, but I can't do it.

Thanks.
