Should I negotiate pay? - Higher education

I have been offered a job in the higher education sector.

My current job pays about £1k higher than the top of the pay band.

Current role is managerial, new one isn't, but still has quite a lot of responsibility.

The manager said that they normally appoint to the bottom of the band but she could speak to HR about 'wiggle room' and 'maybe' starting one point higher.

What I really want is the top of the band, close to my current pay.

I just don't know how hard to negotiate on this one - seeing as my current salary is above the entire band, should I be demanding they put me at the top?

Or should I accept less as it's not managerial?

It's a part time (3 days) role so the actual difference in my pay would be quite small - but then it's also a small difference for them!

What do you all think?

I don't want to be pushy but don't want to undersell myself either.

I'm sorry no one replied to you @MsFrost . It was a reasonable question. For me, I wouldn't move into a lower paying role unless there was an overwhelming reason (e.g. strongly feeling your current employer are about to make your job redundant without offering you a new one, etc). If there was that overwhelming reason, I would still press as much as possible for as high a pay as possible during the negotiation for the new job- politely and professionally of course. Feel free to come back if you need more (or more specific) advice.
