Medical jobs without nursing degree?

Pretty sure this doesn't exist but just wondering if there were any medical jobs that you don't need a nursing degree? I currently work as a maternity assistant and I find the way the midwives talk about analysing CTGs, or different medications, different blood test results etc so interesting but I cannot commit to the time demands and shift patterns that come with doing a midwifery or nursing degree. Is there anything else that you can progress with that has a bit more analysis like that or in depth knowledge that you can train on the job instead? Thank you

what band is your role, a nursing associate is a band 4 and will to the technical side of a nurses job. This is a band 4 post once qualified. Bot sure if that is a band above where you are now.

could also consider ODP which is a operating theatre assistant. There are loads of apprenticeships roles like this in the NHS.

There are loads of non clinical technical roles that you can train via an apprenticeship in the NHS - Pharmacy technician is another. These roles you are dealing with a variety if staff and patients on the wards and in clinics.

Clinical trials practitioner? Can get band 6....maybe even band 7 in some trusts

I did my nurse training as a single parent with three children. I lived away from all my family, so I juggled my way through it. Don’t underestimate the value of a nursing or midwifery qualification. A qualification like that opens up so many career opportunities. Dreams can come true. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would end up with a degree, a teaching qualification at Masters level and be on a band 7.

@Robotalkingrubbish totally agree, I think the NHS as a whole has so many opportunities for further study and promotion whatever your level of qualification

Off the top of my head, I would look at Physio Assistant, Ambulance Technician and Pharmacy Technician.

ODP is degree training.

However I would look at roles that can be trained for via Apprenticeships as anything with the serious level of analysis you are talking about in the NHS is degree level and I think you would rapidly want to move up and learn more.

Yes! Critical Care Scientist. But only available through the NHS STP, which is super competitive.

There are multiple STP routes, but these are graduate entry. You don't need a nursing or midwifery degree. Spending on the STP route you are interested in you could consider a range of degrees.

In our health trust jobs are advertised by type - nursing, science, medical, admin and allied health care. You could take a look at the kind of non-nursing jobs which are available in your trust and see what appeals and what qualifications they require.

What are the barriers to studying for a degree? Is it the time? The shifts? The money?
Many health care roles work predominantly office hours - or possibly long days and placements reflect that.
