Civil Service pre-employment checks when self-employed

Hi all, I hope those of you who work in the Civil Service might be able to put my mind at rest!

I have a provisional offer to work in the Civil Service as an SEO and my pre-employment checks are underway. I have been self-employed for 10 years and am currently still self-employed. After Covid (2022) I made my Limited Company dormant as I have decided to pursue a career in something completely different (retrained from Radio Producer to Data Analyst!). I now currently work as a self-employed contractor within analysis, working on a variety of projects to help build my portfolio. I owe no personal tax, no corporation tax and HMRC have been informed that my Limited Company is dormant and I filed my dormant accounts with Companies House (albeit slightly late, never filed a return always relied on my accountant but don't have one now!!). HMRC have given me until 2025 to dissolve the company which I intend to do.

I put on the form my self-employed accounts were still open and that I do not intend to be self-employed if I was to start this job. They have flagged this and I have explained the reason why they are still open is that I am currently self-employed and this is currently a provisional job offer, I will close all self-employed accounts if I was to get a confirmed offer.

DBS has come back, internal fraud checks and identity it is just my work / self-employed history. My references have not been contacted yet.

Are they going to reject me because my self-employed accounts are still open? I don't know how I can do anything else because I am currently self-employed!! Should I get in touch with the recruiter to let them know references have not been contacted yet or am I just being impatient? It's been 5 weeks so far.

Any words of wisdom much appreciated. Thanks!

In the application process - were you ever asked asked if you are employed elsewhere

my contract stipulates that my position is the only job i have

Why not just dissolve the company?

No there wasn't any mention of it in the application process, I know you have to ask for permission to do any other self-employed work and I would rather focus on my new job. I think they are just checking to make sure there is no conflict of interest etc.

Why not just dissolve the company?

The company has been established for a considerable amount of time so if I was not successful securing a position in data analytics it might be something I would have to go back to this year.

what role have you been offered? Is it data analyst?

It’ll be fine I was in same position and it was a year before I closed down my ltd company fully after starting with HMRC
