Any nurses here?

Hi, so I've been working on the wards for the past 10 years and was thinking about a change. I've seen quite a few job adverts for 'Nurse Assessors' assessing people for disability payments, etc and was just wondering if anyone has any experience working in this area of nursing.

Hi @Orangejuice30 I haven't done the role myself but know ex colleague's & friends that have tried it. A couple still do it and really enjoy it, so very mixed opinions.

I interviewed and was offered a nurse assessor role but accepted an alternative role instead. The interview prep and interview itself were interesting and personally, an insightful experience for me. The role I was offered was "back office", a purely paper based assessor role. This meant that I would be assessing cases and writing reports based on documented evidence alone, no actual interviews with clients.

It's not even close to traditional nursing and if you were to go down that road, it takes an enormous mindset shift for most nurses to adjust, particularly those who have long service in hands on, traditional nursing roles.
You cannot "fix" anyone, or even refer to someone who can. You are simply interviewing, gathering evidence and points scoring. This is the part, for me, I would find most challenging. My nurse brain just wouldn't cope with it 😔
.
Have a look at some glass door/indeed reviews, Facebook healthcare workers forums and you'll see people's experiences. It's a marmite role unfortunately.
Good luck with everything, nursing is a tough gig and getting tougher by the day 😔
