Negotiating salary after verbally accepting?

I’ve been offered a job at a company on the same salary I’m on now. It’s a great team, and I don’t enjoy my current role due to poor management, so I was happy and excited to verbally accept at the same salary I’m on now.

I’ve just received the written offer with the contract, and the full time hours at this company are longer than they are in my current role by 5hrs/week. Would it be unreasonable to ask for a slightly higher salary at this point to compensate for the increase in hours?

If you've accepted verbally, that's a binding contract which includes the terms already set out.

You should have checked this at the time before agreeing.

To renegotiate would be pulling out of what you've agreed and you wouldn't like it if they tried to do this.

If the hours were not specified verbally previously when you accepted that figure, then I think YANBU to re-negotiate.

Good luck!

So there’s no negotiation after verbal acceptance, even though the candidate obviously doesn’t see the full terms of the contract until they have the contract?

The candidate can accept, subject to satisfactory terms and conditions. Or ask the necessary questions to establish if they're happy to accept.

But technically, you accepted what they offered and if you go back on it, they're not required to offer anything else.
