Away day on last day of working notice

I have resigned for a better role, after a year of hating my current employer and job.

My last contractual day coincides with the company away day (lots of supposedly fun team building exercises - in truth it’s done on the cheap). Everyone has been told it’s compulsory but they can take annual leave if they really don’t want to go. I can’t see the point in going, don’t want to, but I don’t want to “waste” AL either. Would you go?

will they want you there?

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/08/2023 03:39

I'd do a disingenuous email about 'leaving the role well' and how you want to make sure everything is cleaned up blah blah, have to be in the office/at work t make sure everything is done.

Otherwise go and just read a book. What are they going to do?

BritInAus · 13/08/2023 03:40

I'd ask to move your last day by one so you finish the day before. Absolutely no point you going.

WiggelyWooWorm · 13/08/2023 03:43

Nope.

I'd tell them I don't want them to waste the money on me going and my place (even if not strictly true) and say I won't be there.

As above, if asked what I'll do instead I'd say I'll be doing u al tidy up.

Honestly if you have A/L you will need to use it anyway so you might as well use it.. I hear you don't like you job but we have had a couple of people leave recently- didn't want to be there..To the rest of the team it was a relief when they left...Lots of away day activities are cringe but someone been an arse on them makes them worse.

frazzledasarock · 13/08/2023 03:56

I’d call in sick.

Blueblell · 13/08/2023 04:05

Definitely don’t go!

LightSpeeds · 13/08/2023 05:30

No way!

I'm sure she'd take AL if that was the case! Many jobs pay you for outstanding AL when you leave.

Exactly that or call in sick

Whatyoutalkingabouteh · 13/08/2023 09:54

Could you ask your employer? What would they prefer you do? Attend or work and tie up all loose ends before going? If they say to use your annual leave then just go and use it as an opportunity to say bye to colleagues?

Lemons1571 · 13/08/2023 12:00

The funny thing is that none of my current team are going. One is already on annual leave, one is on mat leave, and the third is a remote worker miles away so is exempt. If I’m the only one there, suppose I’ve got to see the funny side!

Then I'd suggest to your employer it's clearly a waste of their finances and you'll stay in the office to tidy up. What they find do, fire you?

Seafarer · 13/08/2023 12:14

can you use up a days annual leave for it and treat yourself to a nice day off before you start your next job?

jay55 · 13/08/2023 12:19

Surely it makes sense to leave a day early, as you'll have to do the final day admin, handing pass back or whatever the day before anyway.
