I'm applying for Civil service job and I can't get the CV right. I scored a 3 on a previous application. I listed my job titles and key job description. Do I need to add more to it?

It says how I meet the job description but not sure how to write this. Does anyone have any advice or willing to share an anonymised example please?

So if you are being asked to use your CV to demonstrate how you meet the job description then you need to make it clear to the panel the skills you possess, and how they align to the essential criteria of the post. Is selection just on CV or are there behaviour examples and a personal statement too ?

Are you sure it's the CV you're being scored on? That part of the application normally isn't scored. It's usually either the personal statement, or behaviour examples, or both depending on the vacancy requirements, that you're scored on.

The CV per say isn't "scored" but the evidence of how the applicant meets the essential skills, qualifications and experience are part of the assessment.

just listing the jobs you've don't and a laundry list of duties will not get you through the sift.

you need to make a clear link between what you've done in those roles and how you'll be able to do the job you're applying for competently.

So, if they list stakeholder management as a key skill they need, you need to highlight how you've liased and collaborated with peers, management, customers to fulfil the objectives of what you needed to deliver in your role. Mirror the vocabulary used in their JD in your CV to show you're thinking about what they need.

don't = done

You need to ensure your cv is tailored to the specific job description. I don't massively adjust my cv for what I am applying for but I will for example if the job description lists an essential skill that I make sure I reference that skill in my cv. For example my template cv might state 'compiled and presented monthly management reports'; the job description might state ' experience of presenting accounts to senior stakeholders so the cv line becomes 'compiled monthly management accounts and presented to senior stakeholders including the 'Executive Board''.
