Why dont job ads say what shift/hours they want?

Im sick of applying for jobs only to have to refuse an interview because the hours are too much or ths shifts are wrong.
It would save me so much time if ads showed the expected hours/shift pattern.
I feel that I am being discriminated against because all companies seem to want you to be able to work earlies, evenings and weekends.
I just cant do evenings and most jobs I am appying for seem to need this.

Well, because if they can they would like to employ people who are flexible enough to be able to meet the business's needs.
That isn't to say that people aren't sometimes (often?) employed to hours or patterns that might be different from that which the employers would prefer. It is all down to supply and demand, and how easily they can fill the roles vs what particular skills, qualifications or experience you bring to the role that nobody else can offer.

I don't know what kind of jobs you are applying for but its not unusual to arrange an informal chat about a job before an interview, where you could then put the feelers out about what kind of hours would be required.

Definitely don't be disheartened though, for the right person some companies are often willing to be flexible.

All my experience is in reatil so thats what I am applying for.
I can do 8am to 6pm, Saturdays and some Sundays but its not enough.
So fed up, shouldnt be so hard to get a part time job.

Evening's and weekends are entirely standard for retail roles, it shouldn't come as a surprise to you that employers want people who can work these hours.

If 9-5 weekday working would fit better with your lifestyle then it might be time to consider a career change.

I would have thought that 8-6 on six days a week was adequate for most retail jobs. Most shops aren't open evenings (or early mornings) except for supermarkets and larger stores on retail parks. Maybe you need to look at smaller town centre shops OP.

Also think about libraries - they often do publish the shifts they want - and they are rarely open on Sundays.

That’s (evening and early mornings) when staff take in and sort deliveries/rearrange stock/clean/change displays.
