Working notice, toxic and stressful

I handed my notice in 4 weeks ago and have 2 weeks to go. It's awful. I'm in HR. Team Leader. That's it really. I have another role to go to but they're making life really stressful, awkward and basically sh*t, I can't wait to get put of there but not sure I can do another two weeks...

Take sick leave. It won’t affect the new role.

I feel for you. I resigned from a deadful job years ago. My reason was to care for a palliative relative- which was indeed true, but I also hated the job and held out as long as possible, simply for the added months on my CV to look better than leaving after 1 day!

From the day I resigned, my boss wouldn't speak to me, I was not allowed in any meetings and she would literally walk out of a room I was in to avoid me.

Looking back, I wished I used some sick leave- even a day or 2. I had an absolutely clean record and assumed this was really important- it wasn't. If you have someone else senior there to provide a reference or from a previous company- then don't panic about taking some sick leave.

Thank you for your replies. I am tempted to take some sick leave but feel guilty about leaving my team in the shit. My referencing is all complete for my new role so no worries there. They want to have a leaving lunch on my last day. I can think of nothing worse...

I'm working my notice at the moment and have been signed off by the gp for non-work related reasons. I feel slightly guilty and anxious about it, but realistically my team will be fine. So will yours. Look after yourself.

The last job I quit I took sick leave essentially for my notice. Fuck it if there treating you like shit you owe them nothing

user50and · 07/08/2023 14:11

Thank you.
nine I hope you're ok?
Are you off for your entire notice? How did they take it? Have you got another role to go to? Sorry for all the questions...

Not initially I walkout out after having a panic attack for the first time in 10 years. I wasnt risking my mental health for a bullying asshole.
I went to the doctor and was signed off. I took a couple of days then went job hunting. I stayed on sick leave until I got new job including my notice period

Thanks, I'm OK, it's home life stress that's making working impossible at the moment. I have another role lined up, life should be more settled when I'm due to start. It'll have to be.

I had this years ago at a work place and I thought I would hang out the last 8 weeks of my notice despite the toxic environment. I had a new job and it was all completed fine. I then had a serious incident one Friday which left me absolutely shaking in fear - it was beyond serious and the abuse was the entire reason I was leaving. I collected all my personal possessions and with a huge migraine starting drove home - I got home at 5.30 pm and had phoned my GP on the way and she had arranged to see me at 6pm after surgery. I went and my blood pressure was sky high and I was sat in the waiting room with a cold compress - whilst I was telling her what had happened I vomited with the stress. I didn’t want stress on my record and was wanting something for the anxiety to try to go back feeling I needed to be a perfect member of staff for the last few weeks. She refused and signed me off for 3 weeks with a serious migraine and viral infection and that was that. I never went back.
She also stated in an letter to my work that I needed full rest for at least 3 weeks to try to get my immune system to recover and due to the migraine / migraines would be unable to respond to phone calls. I think looking back that she could well of saved my life - it was beyond stress.

In the 5 years since 15 people have done my job - I lasted 3 years - I was so worried about a smooth transition - one person didn’t even do a day - he walked out at 10.30 am and just said ‘no’ - so I would discuss it with your GP and get signed off if possible including for last day

Wow Duchess you poor thing. I hope life is better now?
Mine is no where near that bad, I am just being micro managed, doing my previous role plus my Team Leader role (this has been going on since I was promoted in March, hence me leaving, it's chaotic), having to write up guides and processes for the new TL (something I never had), being asked 4 million questions a day and getting Sunday night work anxiety EVERY night....
