Would you re-apply for a job?

I job recently came up that seemed to a perfect fit for me - I met all the qualifications and experience criteria - but I didn’t even get an interview :(

it’s just been re-advertised.

would I be bonkers to re-apply.
I’m thinking of actually listing their criteria, and showing how I meet in (in a cover letter)

I kind of feel a bit embarrassed when they’ve already rejected me once …. Do I swallow my pride and try again, or just accept that they don't want me for whatever reason?

Definitely reapply. In April 2017, I was in the same position as you, the person they hired was overqualified and good at their job so got promoted very quickly. I applied for the position again and started atvthe company in August. I've done well there and still work there but a different position.

There were two firms in my field I had always dreamed of working at and I was rejected from both after the initial interview. Now, I am working at one of them and the other one just offered me a job as well. Go for it 👍

Hmmm.

don’t know my doctors surgery loves bringing out different roles to advertise as vacant and they ‘always love’ writing ‘previous applicants need not apply’ advice but who does that apply to people who’ve applied on past to be the receptionist, the administrator, the trainee pharmacist. Who exactly are they wishing to eliminate?

Contact them, explain you would like to apply again that you feel you meet the job spec well but was wondering if there was anything in your experience that would be better to draw out more. I did this a few years ago and it turns out they actually lost my CV, the hiring manager had never seen it. I applied again and got it second time. Some organisations like some in the civil service don't allow repeat applications and will auto filter which is why it can be worth contacting.

OP, the selection process is very often handled by people who have no clue about the specific skills and knowledge required. So you must repeat back all the exact words used in the job advert and spec to prove you fit the brief. Never assume they can read between the lines or extrapolate transferable skills.

I'd reapply and cover all the essential and desirable skills in the application.

Absolutely reapply, what have you got to lose? If you don't apply you definitely won't get the job!

As well as listing out how you meet the criteria (doesn't have to be bullet points) you should also mirror the language the application uses. This prevents filtering out from automated software and also gives a human reader a subconscious feeling of you understanding what they are looking for

Is there a person listed to contact to
Make enquiries? I'd try and give them a call and use it both as an opportunity to sell yourself and a way to find out more about what they are looking for:

Thank you everyone.

I was feeling quite deflated but I will try again, and put some more effort into tailoring my application for the role.

Good luck OP. Be confident in your application.

If you really want to, why not? I once applied for a job and didn't get an interview. They didn't feel I'd responded to the criteria but I felt I had (but maybe I were responding more to the broader project rather than the particular job, which I was actually overqualified for). They interviewed some people, didn't like any of them, then asked me and some others they'd rejected to interview. I went for the interview after which they offered me the job and, when I rejected it, they literally begged me to reconsider and change my mind. I think part of the problem was I'd mentally moved on after I'd got their rejection. Anyway, the moral of the story, sometimes you do get a second chance, so go for it.

Thank you for all the advice and kind words.

I have just spent 3 hours re-doing my supporting statement and re-applied.

Fingers crossed!!
