Let go from a toxic work environment

Hey all,

I got let go today from new job, which I had been in only a couple of weeks. I was mostly relieved as it was a very toxic environment, I worked alone with my office manager and she didn't like me from the start and I received little training on the systems I was to take over. She was very unapproachable, and I constantly had to ask questions on how things were to be done and made to feel stupid for even asking.

The reasons for my dismissal were failure to take reasonable instructions from manager and time management skills.

I then queried the time management thing and was told I was late a number of days and this was not in line with policy. That really pissed me off as I'm one of those annoying punctual people who arrive half hour early to everything, including work. I asked for CCTV proving this as I actually found it insulting.

Not sure what the point of this post is, need to rant as I'm so angry at how I was treated. I left a job I was in for 5.5 years and had fantastic colleagues for what I thought was a better opportunity with room for progressing and sadly I was very much mistaken.

My confidence has taken a massive hit. I have an email saved in my drafts for the appeals process(I wouldn't go back for diamonds but I want it noted how unprofessional her behaviour was and how unfairly I believe iv been treated) which I will send tomorrow, but because it was such a short employment wondering is it even worth the hassle?

That really sucks, I'm sorry. Sounds like a.licky escape maybe? Why they have to make up lies? So rude!

I’m a cheeky bitch at nearly 42: hate bull sh!!ters (life to to short) l’d love to ask these companies AND make them really answer ‘how many staff do you keep on from induction’? C’mon 1 in 5 or 1 in 7?!?

I agree I also think it was a lucky escape, it's the sting of being let go. The reasons given I felt were very unfair and alot of it untruthful!
Exactly I'd love to know the same. Since iv started iv heard reasons why other staff had left. And one former staff member said they were bullied out of it by said manager , who only started to cover her maternity leave.

Ugh, the thought of finding a new job is horrible, how do you explain the gap in CV without looking incompetent 🫠

Well there really is nothing to appeal, they can let you go for any reason, so long as they have given you your contractual notice period they are in the clear. If you think you will feel better by writing an email then you could do so but it won’t achieve anything and maybe you would be better focusing on the future.

A gap on a CV is really no big deal, I am in my 50s with a three year gap on my CV and got snapped up when I started looking for a new job last year.

I know how you feel OP. I left a job I really liked to go to another job which was really high paid (for an admin role). I didn't pursue other interests and opportunities due to this role.
Started and I knew it wasn't the place for me. Everything was very artificial. There was open talk of what plastic surgery everyone had or was getting. They ordered me a size 12 uniform just imagining it would fit (I'm a 16) looking back I wonder if it was either an incentive or a subtle dig.
I knew my face didn't fit and I asked awkward questions. The male boss just expected us all to smile and bask in his greatness.
Despite doing a good job and taking on board all of the training, four weeks in I was called into the office and let go on the spot. They said they had decided there wasn't enough work for me. The next week I saw the role go out again in the paper.
It hurt for a bit but I moved on. Went into a completely new industry which changed my life. Met much more likeminded people (who didn't care if I was a 16).
You will move on from this. Do some temp jobs, move around, you'll find your niche and I bet that in the long run you won't regret leaving your old role. You might still feel resentful of the place who let you go but it's really their loss. I don't think many people enjoy being sacked, but at least you know that you did all you could.

@Daniki you put the gap on the CV down as 'temp employment' and you move on.

You've had a very lucky escape. You didn't do anything wrong. The crappy manager- is the one who lied about you to get you sacked. She probably has form for that type of behaviour and had you stayed on, you'd have made her look bad because truthfully someone who cannot train and guide staff under them is an unfit manager.

Put it behind you and find something better.

Thanks all it's been nice to read your replies!
I think in terms of sending the email it's more so I wanted it noted about my managers unprofessional behaviour, rather than appealing the decision as I wouldn't go back there for anything in the world 😩 anyways onwards ands upwards I'm going looking at kitchens today as we're building a house atm so at least I have more free time for that 😂
