Hi I am new to mumsnet.
I had been a full time carer for my dad who lived with us for nearly 20 years in that time I have had 2 children who are now teenagers.
My partner and I don't live together anymore that is another story but he is still around.
My dad passed away last year and it's been so difficult for be.
Financially I have to get a job now which I have but I have been suffering from anxiety and stress plus the bereavement..
The job I have been offered is in a school and ideal for me but I am worried I am good enough and anxious as it has really just been me and the family for years,
Any help would be great .
The children's dad doesn't understand when I explain to him but I don't tell him everything as-he hadn't always been the nicest and most understanding person

@Carol52 local authorities have online training courses you can do to gain new skills and this will help boost your confidence.

You could also reach out to your local job centre and query Microsoft package training and computer skills courses.

The thing to remember is that you CAN do this. If a 17 year old child can be hired and do the work, then a lady with your life experiences and common sense can too. The only thing you should think about is how you can brush up on your admin and computer skills and there is help out there to let you do that.

Try to relax and enjoy the new role. There will be training and guidance.

It is scary for anyone to start a new job! Totally normal to feel that way but I bet your new colleagues will love you and one day soon you'll look back and wonder why you worried so much.

Chin up, be confident and try your hardest. That's all you can do.

I would suggest

Aim to be at work on time, every day

Wear comfortable clothes & shoes

Listen for what you are expected to do. I like to take notes. Learn people's names & their contact details

It always takes a few weeks to learn a new job, so take one day at a time. It took me 3 months last time I changed job to feel comfortable.

Good luck !

Thanks for the tips . I am just getting do anxious about forgetting things and not being good enough .
it’s the social aspect as well as it has just been me and my family for such along time Also my ds and dd are having to get up alot earlier for me to drop them off near school. Then they have to get 2 buses home. I feel guilty about that and worried but. I have to get back to work.
