Support needed - leaving short term job no start date yet

Just that really. Currently working in local authority. Have only been in my short term post 6 months deciding its not for me.
Interviewed for another job which I was offered in the nhs. Had to let my current employer know once I was offered it so they could do a reference and was honest with them about how I felt it was not a compatible fit (they knew I felt this way but decided to give it a bit longer). Have had good feedback about my work etc but ultimately not for me.

Well, references etc. have been done for my new role and undergoing CRB standard check. However....the environment at work is awful. Management are barely speaking to me. How do I tolerate this till I get a start date for my new role, or do I leave now and just have time off till my start date? WWYD?

Do you have any holiday you could take? Could you manage financially if you left early?

Flatpancake1 · 28/07/2023 15:40

Yes @mumlovesvodka , I can afford to leave earlier if its a short period of time but it is a risk as my references have not been verified yet, my dbs hasn't been completed yet either.

Have you have your occupational health check for new job yet? Took about 6 weeks for me to get a start date for NHS recently. If you can afford to leave and know your checks will be ok then I'd leave.

My DBS enhanced took 3 days

Flatpancake1 · 28/07/2023 18:52

Hello @strawberryicecream6464 , yes I've been passed as fit by OH, references have been done but not viewed by the recruiter yet because he is on holiday but back next week, they should be OK though. All other forms have been done ✔️

Really urge caution, hang in there if you can, 5 weeks then going a month in new job before payday really done me in. Had to fight to get refunds back that I’d previously the luxury of not having to track and whatever paltry sum of pay I was owed. Didn’t go out much those 5 weeks and left it kind of too late to access savings tucked away when my car was running on fumes so couldn’t access it even if I could. And unexpected bills always turn up at these really challenging times and you can never get a temp job that fits. Could have cried when I see my payslip today in the build up till Monday they’re teasing us! There was also nearly the worry that we were getting half pay really which took a week to get answer about clarifying as full pay.

Both my experience of NHS and private healthcare, is both come very close to extending my start date, it’s a worry I would simply never want to experience again.

In September 2021 I was told I’d get working in 2 weeks as a band 2 (I was so naive!) it was November after a complete struggle I can’t even go into then to commence and inevitably after cut off so for something like the first two months living of 1 weeks pay from the job. Sorry I’m not kidding (and if you search threads you get end up 4/5/6 months of waiting)
