I have recently been offered a job at NHS (clerical), I accepted the verbal offer which was 30 hours for ENT surgery, however got a letter offering me the same post but different hours (37.5) and a different surgery (neurosurgery) and a different location. The offer that is in writing is much better than the verbal one. Does anyone know could they have made a mistake?

IME, NHS HR isn’t always great. But even if this particular trust have a decent HR department, they’ll be employing lots of people simultaneously and mistakes happen. So definitely could be.

But could also be a change in their employment offer. I’ve been offered a job in an NHS department and turned up to be doing the same job in a different department. They just thought I’d be a better fit there. But the change in hours seems less likely.

Pick up the phone and talk to HR/recruitment team. Only they can tell you if it’s a mistake or not.

I originally applied for full time, however, they’ve called me and said that I was unsuccessful for full time and that they can offer me 30 hours. Which I accepted, so I was hoping they might have changed their mind.
