'unofficial' resignation - still waiting!

A member of my team unofficially resigned nearly two weeks ago and I'm still waiting for their official letter. Is this usual? We've had a few conversations about their handover and I've done their reference but how long does it take?!
This is someone who has been challenging and had they stayed we would no doubt have had to go down the performance review route- I think I'm just glad they're moving on so I can get someone more competent in the role.

But anyway, is this type of delay usual?

I'd stop talking about the handover until they've given you the letter, and their notice period only starts when they've made it official. If they're slowing things down, you may have to go down the performance route anyway.

I'd say they employee's hedging their bets OP and will leave at the drop of a hat without a handover OR stay as long as possible - whatever suits them best. Please seek some guidance from HR but it might be time to send them an email confirming that they verbally resigned on x date, agreed their last day of employment would be x date, you've not received their resignation letter yet, but please can they provide one asap. In the meantime and as discussed and agrees you're working towards x date as their final day.

I suggest you ask for their official resignation before you go any further, giving them half an hour at work to write it if necessary.

Thanks all. I admit I was worried that they were going to somehow cause a drama as they're leaving!
