Holiday entitlement...?

warriornotworrier · 21/07/2023 19:50

I'm just about to start a job which is 2 days a week (Tuesday and Wednesday)
Apparently my holiday entitlement is 8 days a year.
Is this correct? I haven't had a job with paid holidays for years so I can't remember how to work it out.

5.6 weeks minus any bank hols on your working days

dementedpixie · 21/07/2023 19:54

Do they mean fornthe remainder of the year or for a full leave year?

It's a minimum of 5.6 weeks per year which would be 2 x 5.6 = 11.2 days in a full year.

What do full time staff get?

BrightLightTonight · 21/07/2023 19:57

It’s 11.2 days including bank holidays, somI would imagine your employer is not counting the bank holidays within that entitlement

warriornotworrier · 21/07/2023 19:59

I'm really confused. It says I have 3 days I can book this year. (I start mid August) am I being conned out of days!?

When does the holiday year run to and from? How much holiday do full time staff get? What are your working days?

Just seen Tuesday and Wednesday but still depends on the other two questions.

warriornotworrier · 21/07/2023 20:08

I'm not sure what holiday full time staff get, I haven't had chance to meet everyone but I believe most staff are part time. I think it runs from January to January x

That's the stat equivalent to FT. It will equal 4 weeks for you. I assume the 3 days entitlement is for the remainder of the calendar year.

BlueKaftan · 21/07/2023 20:13

Don’t you accrue annual leave based on hours worked? The current calculation is 12.07% I think. I don’t think you can qualify for 5.6 weeks of annual leave with a part time job. There’s a case in the courts at the moment discussing this. Harper Trust?

warriornotworrier · 21/07/2023 20:14

I work a zero hours job currently and they top up my wage each month by 12.7% to make holiday pay up so that's right

Sounds right. Statutory holiday is 28 days for a calendar year- this is made up of 20 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays. As you work Tuesday and Wednesday that would be 20 days/5 days (FT) x 2 days (PT) = 8 days for a full calendar year; 8 days/12 months = .6 days per month x 5 months (assuming you start August to December )=3 days . You should then get 26th December as that’s a Tuesday but a bank holiday.

Hailingfrequenciesopen · 21/07/2023 20:25

Based on me working full time 5 days a week I get 28 days with concurs with the gov website and it sucks!

OP is also entitled to pro rata bank holidays which makes it 5.6 weeks worth of holidays.

You need to know

  1. What full time employees get per year
  2. What percentage of full time you do.
  3. When the year runs from.

Until you know those you can't calculate it.

This sound right to me and is the same way I would have calculated it.

In a normal year, OP would be entitled to 11.2 days (assuming her days are full days). Next year she'd have 10.2 to book whenever she wanted, in line with company policy.

This year, it would be 5(ish). Removing the bank holiday for Boxing Day, she should have just over 4 days to book as usual.
