Do I accept new job?

Help!
I’ve been in my current role for 8 years and have been offered a new job with a new company.
I’m torn as to whether accept.

My current employer is great, super flexible, great line manager etc but not giving me much chance for career progression (only progression I’ve been offered is doing something I’m not massively keen on, although salary would be increased if I took this on)

New role is £4k more than my current package (basic + car allowance) and totally different to my current role. Would give me loads of opportunities to learn new things etc, but I’m not sure the role really is my cup of tea (I’m more interested in the new company, it’s one I’ve wanted to work for for a long time)

So I’m torn, I’d love a role more like mine but with progression, (I’m in finance and do a business partnering role) rather than something more financial (new role)

What would you do? I’ve verbally accepted new role but not yet signed anything.
Thanks

Take the new role. You could move back at a later date to a higher grade position in the current company should you wish at a later stage. You have already said this role offers new opportunities and a higher wage. If flexibility is really important to you then have a discussion with your new employer about this.

You sound fed up of what you're doing now, I'd go for it. Hopefully it'll give you the opportunity for something more up your street in due course.

Take the new role.

Boredom and frustration at not being able to progress can really negatively affect your job satisfaction.

Better to be challenged and paid more for it I say!

If they came back to you today and said they had withdrawn their offer, would it bother you?
If yes, take the job.

New job!

Thanks all! I’ve been with my current company over 15 years and I must admit I’m very nervous of taking that step outside!
I just needed a push!

Finance business partnering is my line of work. It’s quite hard to progress in I’ve found - there are “senior” roles out there but in order to climb the ladder it seems you have to take on more technical / stat accounting stuff or FC responsibilities in order to be seen as finance leadership material… if that’s the kind of role you’re considering moving to now, in order to learn those skills, I’d say 100% go for it or the lack of those skills will only hold you back in the future (speaking from experience 😬)

Thanks @Popskipiekin yes that’s what I’ve been finding at interviews. I’ve only ever looked at costs!

My current employer has offered that I can take on preparing statutory accounts whilst doing some of my current business partnering role. With a pay increase. It’s just the thought of statutory accounts! 😂

I think as I’ve been there for so long it’s very hard to let go, and they’re such a great employer. I get Friday afternoons off, can work at home/in office whenever, super flexible with my children etc. It’s quite hard to give up those benefits to go into the unknown!
