FTC and redundancy entitlement

My husband has been on a FTC for about two and a half years. He is due to finish at the end of August. I believe that as he has more than two years tenure, this would be a redundancy situation and he is entitled to at least statutory redundancy pay and possibly enhanced redundancy pay of his company offers it (that I have asked him to check and I do not know).

Am I correct in my line of thinking?

I’m surprised that’s your position. Lots of employers won’t pay redundancy on expiry of a fixed term.

Then if the employee had two years’ service they’re probably in breach of the legislation and you’ve been advising incorrectly. It’s only in very particular circumstances that this wouldn’t be redundancy. I often describe FTCs to employer clients as a legal bluff.

You ought not to be surprised if you’re a lawyer. It’s been the legal position for a very long time.

Are you in the UK?
yes FTC have an end date but beyond 2 yrs they are entitled to redundancy pay whether they knew the contract was ending or not
