Sacked for challenge Manager behaviour

I just started on a care agency 2 months ago , so on probation. I agree to pick flexible shifts when I went for an interview. Picked a 10pm to 7 am night shift to stay with one client package. Went to work arrived at client house and Manager called me at midnight screaming on the phone ( wished I had recorded) that I had missed a call and I need to get in my car now and go see that client , not knowing what was about I replied that I was already with client. Manager screaming on the phone said that no I was supposed to been on a 30 minutes call at 21:30 with another client before and that I missed that visit, that I need to immediately leave , get in my car and go do the said client I missed !
went to check those care apps that they use now to see that Agency has put a 21:30 call on my app, without informing me or asking if I was available, but at the time I checked at 10pm this call wasn’t on the app. Manager screaming and shouting said that didn’t want to know and that if I didn’t leave right now ( 2 hours later, midnight) would be a safeguarding issue. Couldn’t deal with her arrogance and shouting and said that as I am already with a client that I was supposed to be and agreed on , that I couldn’t leave one to do another, as this client contracted me for the whole night. Manager said that I should do what she said. I refused and she dismissed next day for this.

That was awful. The manager was completely in the wrong.
But they can dismiss you for any reason (other than a protected characteristic) at anytime during first 2yrs of employment.

So, the manager was within her legal rights to dismiss you. As it was a job of only two months, I would not even list it on my CV.

In a way it’s a lucky thing you found out what a horrid boss she is early on ndj are out of it. Imagine putting up with her for years and then having a big gap on the CV? Er, bit of a lucky escape.

That's truly awful but unfortunately as you're on probation I don't think there is anything you can do about it. I feel sorry for their clients.

Did anyone experience this? It’s appear that care agencies think that you signed you soul away when you signed that zero hour contract. I really done with care agencies.

It's the 'care industry' where no one actually cares very much. Your experience is not at all unusual. Despite regulations, oversight by CQC, vocational training, level 5s, care certificate, training and emphasis on person centred care, safeguarding, and equality the industry is owned by sharks from investment companies and staffed with poorly paid people who couldn't get a job elsewhere.

Managers are simply the worst of the bad bunch because they are simply more pushy, more apt to false self belief, more confident and usually promoted beyond their abilities.

I've experienced worse, and in far too many places OP. I've seen abuse covered up in more companies than I've seen good practice. I've seen bullying of other staff in many settings. I've been a whistle blower in two settings, quietly left in one job, sacked in another despite being the person responsible for overseeing safeguarding.

I wouldn't let a care agency baby sit my budgie, much less care for my family.

It's shit OP, you did the right thing. The manager didn't want to get out of bed and go do the call.

That’s just awful.

We had some wonderful carers for my df but interacting with the agency was something else.

It seemed like an incredibly corrupt sector.
