Have been working in a badly managed ward, cliquey staff, bullying management of a ward for the past 6 months, having stuck it out since pretty much the first week I have been offered a new job. Really pleased as it's a wonderful opportunity. I was offered the job yesterday and as it's another hospital trust in the North. I know I'm maybe being premature but I'd really like to hand my notice in ASAP. Appreciate reference checks are needed, although I think only one reference if it's still NHS, may be wrong though. I think timescale is around 2 months and need to give a month's notice. Wwyd?

Are you with NHSP, so you could do some bank while you wait for the new job start date?
I would hand my notice in, take all and any accrued AL off my notice and leave asap, and work bank until I could start a new role.
Congratulations on your new job.

I've just swapped from one trust to another (band 2) recruitment took about 6 weeks. I handed my notice in on the conditional offer which is risky but I'm in the position that it would have been ok. They wanted two references. I know what it's like to hate your job hence why I handed my notice in but only you can weigh up the risk.

@strawberryicecream6464 , can I ask if you know why they requested 2 references?

In NHS recruitment, you only ask for 1 reference if the individual has been working in the NHS for a longer time (I can't remember the cut off). You ask for 2 for people having not worked there as long.

Thanks @toodledoos . I've worked in the NHS for 19 years, short time in the private sector but stayed on the bank that time. Most wards and clinics I've been there for years, this is the shortest. Based on my length of service is it likely one reference will suffice?

Surely if you've worked NHS for that long 2 references won't be an issue anyway?

@mumlovesvodka no, I'm sure it won't be it was more out of curiosity. I'm keen to leave and just looking ahead as to how long etc it's likely to take considering references etc.
