How can I maximise salary?

Inspired by a thread on AIBU.

I am from a lower MC/WC background, now 40 and feel that I have not made the most of my potential.

My last manager commented not ro undersell myself and that I have a great skill set. I have taken PT roles and stuck with a job longer than was wise, due to wanting to spend time looking after the kids when they were young.

Great minds of mumsnet, could you suggest how I could maximise my earning potential?

I am a former teacher, and also have post graduate counselling qualifications, and managed to get my masters thesis published. I have experience as a trainer/group facilitator as well as a practitioner using coaching and counselling with young people, but limited experience managing teams and have not led a service.

I am open to all and everything, though cannot afford to do further training unless it's paid. The max I have earned so far is about £36k. Would love to get to £50!

I work in the Computer based testing/Talent assessment industry, have you considered looking at being a content writer of going into R&D?

Do you think this would be possible without any prior work experience in this field? @FatAgainItsLettuceTime

Consider Learning and development. Developing training in a corporate role can net you 40k or so. With a few years of corporate experience you could get a more strategic role and into the 50s, without people managing (even better!).

Learning and development in a corporate. You have taught and worked with young people which makes me think third sector - if you are able to meet the (mostly time-based) demands of the corporate sector then your salary will definitely go up.
