Dealing with a lying manager

I need some advice on handling a lying manager please! She is new to the company and consistently lies about work that she hasn’t done or forgotten about, often blaming things on the previous manager instead. I have multiple examples of her doing this, she’s a compulsive liar, and the latest lie has made me so angry I want to call her out on it. How can I do this in a professional and non-confrontational way? It’s completely eroded any trust we had and I’m pretty astonished at the lack of respect she has shown to the team.

Does it relate to your work?

If so, email her factually with details of the work completed.

If not, do nothing.

Your use of 'lying' is a strong word for a professional work place.

Yes it directly impacts me as I now have to pick up the work she hasn’t done.

I don’t know what other word to use other than lying because that’s what she is blatantly doing?

Put everything in email.

Dont do her work.

Fire it back to her in an email, copy in her manager and ask her why she hasnt completed it as it impacts your performance.

She will do one of two things:

  • Buck her ideas up and behave (unfuckinglikely. People like this have form)
  • She will continue to fuck things up and lie till she comes a cropper and is fired

Honestly, how is this an issue?

If the work is not your responsibility, don't do it. Simply clarify - that's x manager's job.

Do your job

Reply via email on any issues that arise.

Let her be - if she's genuinely 'lying' that will come to the fore quickly.

Do your own job and meet your outputs.

I’m dependent on her to communicate the information I need to do my job. When she sits on this information/forgets about it/doesn’t pass it on, and then lies about it to cover her back, it becomes my problem as it looks like I’m not doing my job.

I managed someone like. Thought she was very clever with her constant lies.

You need to get it all in writing, and then escalate it up the chain.

Just remember they lie in the moment and don't keep up with their own lies, so they are usually quite easy to catch out in a way that makes it clear to all what's going on.
