Hi. I'm wanting some advice, hoping somebody works in HR or something 😅 Before I say anything I ofcourse don't want to ask my HR and I am waiting for union to get back to me but it's taking a while. I'm currently on maternity. I work within the police. baby is 7 months and I'm back in January time. I had baby after many years and have been advised by doctor to not use any protection if I am wanting another child just to make my chances higher to conceive again. Although I didn't want 2 or 3 under 3 young babies, it's a blessing either way. I recently found out I had a miscarriage and it never occurred to me about work. I have to look at this from a financial point too. The plan is to go back to work part time about 2 days working 6 to 8 hours whereas normally it's 4 days 12 hour shifts. If I got pregnant whilst on part time hours do I still get the maternity benefits I have gotten this time round from working full time for example 6 months full pay then half etc or whatever the company rules are or does it differ. Would help if anyone has been through this and works within NHS police fire etc. Sorry for the long rant hope this makes sense appreciate any messages

You’ll still get the same benefits, but the amount of full pay you’ll receive will be the same as your new part time salary, not your old full time one.

I'm NHS staff and was a full time worker for my first pregnancy but went down to 3 days before becoming pregnant the second time. I was still entitled to the same number of weeks of occupational mat pay, statutory mat pay etc but as the payments are a percentage of your overall salary my mat pay was significantly lower the second time around. (Hope that makes sense and I understood what you were asking?)

So you'll still get exactly the same terms - full/half pay etc. But obviously it'll be your full/half part time pay. But worth checking about qualifying weeks.

Our full time pay is calculated in a certain "qualifying weeks" period. So if I worked lots of unsocial hours etc during that time, my pay would be more. Equally, if you've not yet returned from maternity leave during these weeks then your pay will be whatever it is on maternity (likely zero). So just make sure you're back to work and earning during that period!

@Olivia199 Yes that makes sense. Is there a minimum time I would have to work full time do you know. I would like to atleast up my hours before I decide on getting pregnant but not sure if its like a 6 month minimum rule etc. Again I know it will be different for every company but most are generic x

Thank you @Marmite27 & @mummabubs thank you its good to know that I'm just wondering if I do go to more hours is there a minimum time I need to work before getting pregnant to make sure those hours are considered. Kind of like when u start a jobs and it's 6 months minimum x if you know please let me know too

As long as it isn't a new job then no, as long as you work full time hours during your qualifying weeks, you'll get that as your maternity pay. Or at least it is for us (NHS)
