Legal breaks working a six hour day

I may be commencing a new role that is a six hour shift. I believe that due to it not being over six hours I am not entitled to a break, is that correct?

Yes legally you do not have to have a break 6 hours and under. Over 6 hours it's a 20 min minimum break.

It was discussed that I would do 9-3 but only be paid for 5.5 hours per day. I'd rather do 9-2.30 and not have a break and get paid for 5.5 hours if that makes sense or do 9-3 and be paid for the full 6 hours. This will be nhs so not sure if that makes a difference?

Employers can have different policies I think, as long as they're "better" than the law. The law is that you're not entitled to a break but I don't think you can demand not to have one. I know in my workplace you have to take 30 minutes break if you work more than 6 hours, not the legal minimum of 20 minutes. But there's no harm in asking them if you can do it differently.

I’m NHS and work school hours on some days - 9-2:30. This is paid as 5.5 hours with no break.
