low moral

can i ask what you all would do if your workplace had really low moral.
think care setting, really busy. low staffing and specialised area takes time to recruit and train.
staff are fed up being micro managed yet managers are following policies and not technically doing anything wrong.
not a lot of trust of management and watch getting moved about and put out their comfort zones often at very short notice and to roles that they are not confident at.
am i please ask, how do u managers get the moral up again when the work expectations won't change in the near future?
covid played big part in the changes happening and the staffing. won't be getting better anytime
soon.
even with reassurance, listening, trying to be empathetic the staff are still really down and not being too productive (what's the point when they just get moved about) kind of thot?
does anyone work in a area of low moral and what would it take to make ur workplace better? any suggestions?

btw i'm not a manager but i am senior staff and trying to help my colleagues knowing there's not much changes we actually can make other than such some of it up and get on with it. some things are just part of the job?

Why is there a policy of micromanaging staff?

I managed a team like this, as a brand new manager (NHS). I ensured that there was no more micromanaging, listened to staff as they had great ideas on how to improve things, introduced consistency with the workload (eg everyone worked in a certain area on a set day - hard to explain, but it makes sense in my team), improved the rota as it had been very poorly put together previously, shared and displayed positive feedback that came in about the team, shared responsibility for certain tasks out so everyone had ownership of their own area of work. Listened to the patients - what would improve things for them? Listened to the staff - they need to feel listened to and valued.

I found staff were banking more and other ex-staff came back to bank as everyone was happier, so staffing has naturally improved along with the changes.

It took a while, but morale definitely massively improved. It is great that you want to help. I would definitely look at how to reduce the micromanaging as that will be having a detrimental effect on the team for sure! People tend to feel very bullied and harassed when micromanaged.

I agree re micro managing, trust and empower people to do their jobs especially those who are hard working and experienced. Listen to what is making their job harder and try to get their input as to how to make things better. Try to give positive feedback because when everything is negative it all becomes draining and people need to be recognised for their efforts.
