What (roughly) is your role and what's your day rate?

Everyone is cagey about this in real life (me included) but I'm interested to know a general picture....

Architect. Hourly rate £30 or £250 to £300 daily rate depending on the contract.

rcat74 · 06/07/2023 22:47

Solicitor £38 as wfh. Would be up to £50 in the office.

toads912 · 06/07/2023 22:51

I freelanced for £10.50 an hour working remotely in a customer service role, answering emails, texts, social media etc
not very glamorous or well paid but it paid the bills and I did enjoy it, and didn’t require any niche experience or qualifications

BaffledOnceAgain · 06/07/2023 22:52

I teach and do paperwork for families and charge most £40-45 per hour. Some families I work for at a reduced rate because I know they can't afford it. I hate charging for what I do because it's a very similar role to what the LA used to pay me to do elsewhere in the country and this LA don't provide the same service.

I’m an accountant and have freelancer clients earning as little as NMW but others earning up to £1k per day. It varies massively on qualification, experience, location, role, etc.

I'm a freelancer copywriter and my day rate is £400-450 depending on the client

bearkey22 · 07/07/2023 07:38

Didn't expect to see a copywriter charging so much more than a solicitor and an architect. Interesting.

Brand and portrait photographer, full day session is £1500 but that's 3-4 days of actual work so somewhere between £375 and £500 true day rate.

PleaseDontLickThat · 09/07/2023 22:41

@BananaHammock23 Can I ask how you got started in that role? I’m trying to set myself up as a freelance copywriter but struggling to get a foothold. Happy to DM you if you prefer!

weathervane1 · 09/07/2023 23:09

Interim CIO / IT Director - £850 to £1000 a day until I retired a few years ago. I know others in a similar role with ranges £600 to £2,000 a day. It's hugely variable.

johnnydeppsslipper · 09/07/2023 23:12

Dayrate works out around £550-£750 depending on how long the day is.

I work in a luxury industry

BananaHammock23 · 10/07/2023 17:17

@PleaseDontLickThat HTH if you want to DM. I started out as a journalist and moved into corporate copy after about 10 years writing for mags and newspapers. Most of my work comes through contacts I met when I working as a journalist.
