Stress and returning to work

It has been really busy the last 10 months at work and my workload has increased 50% and I don't see that changing any time soon. I had a bit of a wobble in February and saw a psychotherapist for 8 weeks.
2 weeks ago I couldn't face work with the constant workload and the Dr signed me off for a week with stress and anxiety. I have since returned to work and there have been no changes. No meetings or any discussions. I really don't think being off from work has helped me at all as it has put me back a further week with work.
We do have a HR department and I have never been in this position before so I am unsure what should be expected of them or me.
Am I to continue muddling along the best I can?

No, I don't think trying to continue muddling along when it's damaging your health would be wise.

Your employer has a duty of care to you and should have conducted a risk assessment. I would start by approaching HR.

Thank you @swanling I will raise it with the HR department. To me it feels if they don't mention it then they don't have to deal with it.
I really don't know how the work load can be resolved as they say we have a full head count and my colleagues are quite new and busy too.

I have had a meeting with HR and they have said to delegate my work to other members of the team to help me out.
A more concerning point is that my manager told all the other managers in their managers meeting that I was away with stress.
I have now had one of the other managers ask me if I am ok on 3 separate occasions and I just don't want to discuss it with them. They have no managerial relationship to me. They might be being caring but I do not want to discuss it with them.

Have they actually discussed the work related stress properly other than delegate some of the work?
they should be conducting a stress risk assessment with you. If your company doesn’t have one then they should use the guidance from the Health and Safety Executive

Have they sought advice from occupational health to understand how they can support you to help prevent further stress/sickness leave?

Employers have a legal duty to protect employees from stress at work by doing a risk assessment and acting on it.

If your employer is making untreasonable demands on you then of course this is unacceptable. So it depends what the cause of the stress is.

@Whatyoutalkingabouteh if was an informal chat and how are you doing. If you have too much delegate it. Don't forget we are always here to listen.
I felt they did not want to do/take it any further and no risk assessment was completed.
