I hope I can get opinions here

So, I work on customer service trying to pull myself together after a extremely rough patch

The company I work for is got customer service contracts with an incredible large amounts of big companies & UK government departments which means an employee could work for different companies within a year. I joined the firm working for a big UK government dept. handling lots of personal data etc

The firm decided to change the company I work for & said another background checks are needed with the firm that does the screening for them. Work then emailed me this;

I am contacting you in regards to your background check, specifically the financial check that we completed ahead of your joining new company Ltd.

Background Checking shows an outstanding amount on 2 CCJ’s – You can login to your account and view more details.
(that's my account with firm that does the screening)the New company requires you to provide:
1. The reason/nature of the outstanding amounts (what were they for)
2. Proof of payment plan which shows amounts you are/will be paying towards them or proof that they have or will be written off ( they can be in either digital/email or physical form)
3. How much is yet left to be paid for

Clarification: Your identity won’t be revealed to the new company off course due to GDPR. Let me know if we can arrange a call so we can discuss this or please reply to this email with the above details.

Now I do not have a problem with screening but I am just wondering where I stand with the above because the new role does not involve taking payments or handling funds & transactions so I do not see why I need to be explaining points below to my employer as it is very personal & I am not applying for a loan but work there & not with cash or funds

1. The reason/nature of the outstanding amounts (what were they for)
2. Proof of payment plan which shows amounts you are/will be paying towards them or proof that they have or will be written off ( they can be in either digital/email or physical form)
3. How much is yet left to be paid for
AIBU thinking my employer is asking for too much & digging deep into my finances unnecessarily?

I suspect the checks are to see how at risk you might be from bribery

As @PickledPurplePickle says, if you are financially vulnerable, that makes you more open to bribery or to other pressure being exerted on you to give out security related information.

As above , a credit check is going to show things like recently applied for loans etc as well as CCJ’s which are defaults on prior lending . The less secure your financial position , the more at risk you are deemed at being recruited to access information for bribes , you don’t necessarily have to be dealing in financial aspects of your new job to have access to information that should be secure and is worth money to outsiders for various reasons .

I'm sorry to hear you've had a difficult experience with the CCJs and also the fact that they've come back to haunt you as as it were. PPs are likely correct in that it is the bribery risk for a vetting process that is the key concern. If you have moved on and are now in a stable financial position, that will be helpful to explain.

Also OP I don't know if you know this but I recently found out that if you do eventually pay off a CCJ, you have to write to the credit reference agencies yourself with the evidence to inform them that the debt has been satisfied. The Court won't automatically do this the way that a lender will, as they're not obliged to report to the CRAs. I'm sure many people get caught out by this.

Thank you all for the comments much appreciated

🤔 I am wondering how to go forward with this perhaps I ask that they let me go back to the company I use to work for because I do not feel comfortable discussing my finances with the company at all and maybe start job hunting too 🤷🏽‍♀️. 🤦🏾‍♀️

Why don't you just answer the questions they have asked? At times an employer does want to know that employees are financially stable.

If this is Concentrix moving you to a certain bank, I would strongly advise you to seek work elsewhere as soon as you can. Awful assignment.

Exactly this. The civil service runs these checks on all employees at time job offer made then every so many years.
