I am applying for this post because i enjoy working as part of a team.

The job sounds interesting and varied and involves working closely with and meeting people.Although i do not have any clerical experience I am keen and willing to learn and commit to the required training and to develop my skills.

I have 16 years experience of working with people from different walks of life with different skills and abilities.

I have a good telephone manner and can rely imformation accurately

I have good communication skills.

I am able to record and document sensitive/confidential information accurately and confidentially.

My hobby is the internet so i am competent with navigation around a desktop.

I would not say you don't have clerical experience, just that your experience is informal - you must have done a list or spreadsheet or wordprocessing at some point even just for your own purposes. I would also bring in something specific from your previous working life to backup why you are good with comms/confidential info.

brimfull · 22/02/2008 11:39

I always think that job looks great,am a nurse.

You'd need to be highly organised and able to not mind being constantly interrupted whilst trying to do your job.Yes getting on with all sorts, angry relatives, arrogant doctors, worried patients.

Go for it.
Ward clerks are a vital part of the ward and hold everything together.

Thing is though i haven't ever done a spread sheet or wordprocessing .

Good idea re the why i am good at .....

Does anyone think that it is a job you could just learn with training?

Not wasting time!

Don't say 'although I do not have any clerical experience', that draws attention to the fact that you haven't. Say, I am keen to further develop my clerical skill and gain additional experience in this area.

Don't just say you enjoy working as part of team. Say you feel you thrive on working as part of a team and enjoying making a significant contribution in a team environment (or something)

DOn't say you have a good telephone manner. Say you have an excellent telephone manner and experience of relaying complicated information with accuracy.

Don't say you have good communication skills. Say you have excellent communication skills as demonstrated by your experience of [doing x, y and z successfully, give an example of the type of scenario you are good at communicating in.

Don't use confidential twice, that bit's fine but say you can document sensitive and confidential information accurately and discreetly.

Don't say your hobby is the internet, say you have excellent IT skills, experience of using [x,y,z] programmes (Microsoft stuff probabaly) and [whatever else you might think they need]

Have to run hth!

yes it's a job you could easily train to do on the job.whether they'd have the staff to do that is another matter though

nailpolish · 22/02/2008 11:49

i think its a job you could easy learn as you go

a lot of the computer stuff will be only used in hte nhs - like TRAK and DATIX (thats what we use anyway) its dead easy

Beauregard · 22/02/2008 11:58

The PCT that i am currently employed by is making it's staff redundant and i felt that this was the ideal opportunity to look for a new and exciting postion.

I enjoy working as part of team and enjoy making a significant contribution in a team environment. I have good communication skills .Part of my previous and current positions has involved working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
