The header is pretty self explanatory 😂 I made a cake yesterday and was wondering how much you guys would pay? I tried my hand at a baking business just after having my son, the orders were rolling in but I wasn't charging enough so wasn't really making any profit. Looking to start it back up but want to know how much you'd pay? Tia

We can’t tell the size of the cake from the picture. Flavours might help?

Mumski45 · 18/06/2023 09:06

Sorry can't help on price as I don't buy bespoke cakes so not up to date with a going rate. I would guess at quite a lot as it looks absolutely amazing and very time consuming (assuming the decoration is edible).

Diddykong · 18/06/2023 09:08

Are the flowers edible and handmade?

It's a weird cake tbh, the flowers don't match the style of the actual cake and the writing isn't what I'd want in term of quality if I paid someone.

MayBeee · 18/06/2023 09:08

More info needed - What is the cake ? Size ? Real flowers or sugarcraft ?

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 18/06/2023 09:09

To me the flowers look fake so it's not pay more than £50 and that's a push. The letters are wonky specifically the a and n of "and" and the number 5 is too.
But I imagine it will taste nice

AlligatorPsychopath · 18/06/2023 09:09

You are going to get wiiiiiiildly fluctuating answers, but the bottom line is that most people are barely willing to pay the cost of the ingredients for something like this, much less a labour cost on top.

Hillrunning · 18/06/2023 09:09

Work out costs of your materials, then work out how much tien it takes you. Decide how much your time is worth. Add the two numbers together and multiply by the % of additional profit you want to make.

Personally, I dont like these kind of cakes, artificial and not yummy looking. So I wouldn't pay much at all. But it clearly took you time and some people like them so be firm about your prices.

Groutyonehereagain · 18/06/2023 09:10

Well all I can say is, it looks completely amazing. 👏

I agree. The cake itself looks good, the finish looks very good. However the cake letters look awful!

PuppyMonkey · 18/06/2023 09:10

How much were the ingredients?

I’ve no idea how much I’d charge for that, but I’ve been on a few MN cake price threads over the years and the amount people charge for cakes is pretty astounding to me.Grin

FloweryName · 18/06/2023 09:11

£50

HollyBollyBooBoo · 18/06/2023 09:12

Trouble is places like M&S do cakes for a fraction of the price a bespoke one costs and they're perfectly presented.

To me this cake doesn't make sense with the flowers on top. The letters look different thicknesses, the N is the wrong way round surely?

NashvilleQueen · 18/06/2023 09:12

I am assuming that the flowers aren't edible and so whilst the icing on the cake is very neat it isn't too complicated for someone who know what they're doing. The lettering is not so neat.

Is it just Victoria sponge?

Groutyonehereagain · 18/06/2023 09:12

I’ve looked online, cakes like that seem to cost around £40 around here.

Ylvamoon · 18/06/2023 09:12

The cake looks quite small and the flowers don't look edible....
So not my cup of tea at all.

AHelpfulHand · 18/06/2023 09:13

Around the £80 mark providing the letters were perfect

AnotherDayAnotherUsernameForMe · 18/06/2023 09:13

Obviously the size is relevant, however…

Cake itself is immaculately iced, very neat, well done.

It looks like you need to hone your decorative style as a mishmash of studs, real flowers (praying dipped or wrapped) and almost bubble letters makes it look amateurish and therefore I wouldn’t order it. The actual cake on a much smaller board with a cake topper and I would pay £50-75 depending on size.

WeAreTheHeroes · 18/06/2023 09:13

£50. The finish on the lettering isn't great, which I think is down to the cutters used. The flowers are real - there needs to be more height in the centre. But the finish on the cake is great.

uglybettty · 18/06/2023 09:14

It looks lovely. But I wouldn't pay anyone to make that cake. It's a pretty easy cake to make yourself and use cutters to cut out the fondant lettering.

I'm sure others would pay for the convenience of someone else making it though. Maybe £20-30.

flagpie · 18/06/2023 09:15

I think you need a contrasting colour for the lettering. The cake itself is beautiful but it's let down by the style and colour of the letters. If the fliers are all fake I would pay no more then about £30 as essentially it's just a cake. I would pay much more for a cake with crafted edible toppers

Overthebow · 18/06/2023 09:15

Are the flowers homemade or are they fake flowers? If homemade then I’d pay more for the cake. If trey are fake flowers then probably £30.

dudsville · 18/06/2023 09:15

It's very pretty, you should feel proud. I don't have a clue how much cakes cost, good luck to you.

Comedycook · 18/06/2023 09:17

£65

How much did you spend on ingredients? A cake like that and that size, the cost of ingredients is surprisingly high

whataboutme77 · 18/06/2023 09:18

People always fall over themselves to be unkind in threads like this.
I like it and would be very pleased with it for a special birthday cake.
I'd pay £50-£60 but I suspect you want a bit more to cover your labour costs.
