New job blues

I started a new job on Monday managing a well established team. Its in a big organisation which I have worked in before but I've never had anything to do with this department. I've been so anxious about it but the hours are great for my home life.

We're into day 3 now and already the team are asking for guidance. I feel terrible because I'm guiding them best I can but truth is, I'm still kind of clueless about what they do despite my numerous questions.

I knew I'd feel like this as something so new was always going to be scary for me. I am determined to get through it but I guess I'm after a bit of reassurance in the meantime. Any advice?

It is only day 3! It'll take a bit of time to get familiar with things, but you will. Don't put so much pressure on yourself.

It takes months to get up to full speed with a new job- you’re only in day 3! Please don’t be so hard on yourself.
i felt like a didn’t have a clue what was going on for months and it then clicked- 9 years later still here 🤣

It's tricky, I usually give out "trust me" vibes and make a big thing of demonstrating active listening.

Half the time by helping them clarify their issues they come up with the solutions themselves!

I am still in new job blue at the moment after I have been in for 7 weeks already.

Already started looking for another job🙄

Can't fit in the new role for what ever reason, just hate it everyday 😭

As a colleague who was told at interview that part time is out of the question (and my workload does not support part time), I'm growing increasingly resentful of new starters who have come in with their work pattern demands (all the jobs are advertised as full time) and as for them all finishing earlier than office hours (including the managers), I've often ended up locking up the office myself.

Even if they would agree to me dropping a day, Monday and Friday are already spoken for by newer colleagues and I don't want a mid week day off.

Can you tell this thread has hit a nerve? 😄

Incidentally the most demanding colleague was sacked in December as she didn't seem to think she needed to do any actual work.

[and yes, I'm fully aware that part timers are paid pro-rata]

The OP didn't say she was part-time.

If she's still in role she'll be seven months into the job now as this thread is from June last yearb- hopefully she is feeling more confident.

1)Speak to your boss for guidance, ask for time so he can give you a run down on the team, their rules, his objectives for what he wants from you going forward.

  1. arrange a quick 1-2-1 with each team member. Cleverly get them ti talk about themselves, they're history, their role, what the hardest /easiest, best bits /worst bits are.

Then very quickly your'll know more, from both ends/sides.
