Civil service 1500 bonus

Confused5678 · 04/06/2023 12:42

Hello , I work full time as a civil servant and the 1500 bonus is apparently due for those in post on 31st march . To get the bonus you must be employed when the payment will be made . I was on maternity leave on 31st march . Anyone know if I would likely get the bonus?

It sounds the same as the NHS non-consolidated payment - so it will be paid pro rata, and you might be able to have it spread over several months to minimise effects on UC I think.

And nothing for those in the private sector as usual. The ones who create the wealth!

If your employer doesnt pay a bonus take it up with them or move to a company that does.

You may not see the civil service as "creating wealth" but the country would be in chaos without them

Unless you think private businesses would continue to create wealth whilst there are no children being educated, no one able to get or renew their driving licence or passport, no criminals being persecuted, no one arranging trade deals, no planning permisson granted, no land ownership details updated, no patents granted etc etc etc

My union said it will be pro-rata’d for part time staff. Although Simon Case’s email really made it sound like it’s £1.5k for everyone.

Pro rata for part time staff is fair enough though

My point was just that it’s being talked about as if it’s the same for everyone.

Typical comment, really irritates me. You aren't paid by the government so why would you get anything? That's down to your employer we Civil Servants are paid/underpaid by the government!!

Its the usual sense of self entitlement from people who clearly do not know how the Civil Service functions.

Clueless people from the private sector 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️🙄

Shopaholicnik51 · 11/06/2023 12:17

Yes I bet that person had nothing to say when civil servants suffered years of 1% pay rises or no pay rise at all.

PonyPatter44 · 11/06/2023 14:45

Nothing for the"civil servants " employed by HM Prisons though. We're civil servants when it comes to pension conditions, but not when it comes to paying bonuses.

Not sure how that works...but my friend works for HM Prisions and got a 10% pay rise. Did you also receive that?

gdjb · 11/06/2023 15:29

@PonyPatter44 my understanding is that they are not civil servants, the pay conditions are not set by Treasury, being entitled to Alpha is not the qualifying criteria to be civil servant, I have been a public servant previously eligible for Alpha.

Hahahahahahahaha..... did I bollocks! Was that the uplift they paid to the OSGs to make sure they were being paid above the NLW? Because if it was, that was absolutely the right and proper thing to do. The rest of the prison service didn't get anywhere near 10%.

Ilikewinter · 11/06/2023 17:47

@PonyPatter44 ooh im not sure. We were just chatting .... well I was moaning .... about pay rises and she casually dropped it in !! Knowing what she does though 100% she deserves it. Its shit you dont get the bonus.

OddBoots · 11/06/2023 17:50

@PonyPatter44 is there any chance this will change under "One HMPPS" or is your role/prison not included in that?

PauliesWalnuts · 11/06/2023 17:55

We’re curious whether it would also apply to Arms Length Bodies. We’re on the Simon Case email circulation but we’re public servants, not Civil Servants, although we have to adhere to the Civil Service Code. It’s such a grey area.

gdjb · 11/06/2023 18:32

@PauliesWalnuts what pay remit do you come under? If HMT sets your pay deals I should think you'll get it, I am certain the ALB I was in where I was a public servant will be getting it as our pay deals were set by HMT and at the mercy of the home department.

PauliesWalnuts · 11/06/2023 18:48

@gdjb - I suspect it’s our home department but not sure. It’s a good question to ask though - thanks. I know our CFO and CEO were caught unawares. It wouldn’t surprise me if they said we can have it but it’ll need to come out of our admin budget, when we’re already having to cut that by several million (and possibly make people redundant) as part of cost savings imposed on us.

1406E · 20/06/2023 12:58

Has anyone heard a rumour that the Home Office or Treasurer has blocked the payment so it has to go thought arbitration first. We haven't had anything official but apparently PCS union members have. Just wondered if it is just a rumour or whether there is any truth in it.

Arbitration for what exactly?

The £1500 is not pay-related transaction, so cant fathom whats being debated (unless its the whole pro-rata thing?).

I know many depts will be making this one off payment in July - likely with peoples monthly salaries.

1406E · 21/06/2023 08:05

That's what I can't work out. Hope it's just a rumour. The pennies will come in handy. Couldn't work the pro rota thing out either. It's a cost of living "bonus". Just cos you work 70% doesn't mean you only pay 70% of the cost of living expenses. Can't see that argument going down well at the tills in the supermarket as you try to negotiate only paying 70% of the shop lol.

HelplessSoul · 21/06/2023 08:27

LOL

That would be one hell of a gain if you could do that!

But in all seriousness, I've not heard anything to suggest arbitration of any kind is in play. Happy to be wrong if it is though.

orangegato · 21/06/2023 08:33

Always some moron saying private sector got nothing. Every single person I know in private sector got a COL bonus last year. Oh and are paid more.

Feel free to get on Civil Service Jobs if you think it’s an overpaid piss take?

As usual it’ll be months before anything is paid I expect. Wish they wouldn’t dangle the carrot for so long and just pay the frigging thing.

RumNotRun · 21/06/2023 09:06

In Wales (WG) we're excluded from the £1500 so our lot are in discussions with PCS. Doubt we'll be seeing any money before the summer if it drags on as long as usual discussions!

I did see that PCS are still also in discussions about being able to get the £1500 paid over a few months, for those on UC. Not sure if that'll hold things up.

Nw22 · 21/06/2023 11:14

I really don’t think part time people should get the full amount. It is a choice to work less and it is really rubbing it in the faces of those who work full time

LuckOfTheDrawer · 21/06/2023 13:17

I think this is going through with no issues - I know someone who has been told they'll get it with their July salary.

yut · 21/06/2023 13:38

It's going to be pro rata for PT staff in my department, I suspect it will be across the board, apparently because the civil service pay guidance says they are to pro-rate non-consolidated performances bonuses they have to apply the same policy to this payment.
