Does anyone work in Learning snd Development

I have run my own business for the past 10 years doing training on a specific subject. Clients are mainly SMEs.

I'm in a bit of a rut and either want to expand into offering different training subjects (and so more corporate clients) or give it up entirely and try to find an employed role in Learning and Development.

I was looking at a Level 5 diploma but they are quite pricey. Do you think it would be worth it. First in terms of what I will learn but also in terms of boosting my credibility.

I don't want to throw a couple of grand away.

I wouldn't employ a trainer to deliver L+D if they hadn't got the L5 certificate themselves however would also expect some element of industry experience in an L+D role.

Thanks @twistyizzy.

How would I get experience in an L&D role though? Where would I start?

I'm 48!

To be honest I think you could spin your current role to cover it seeing as you already deliver training and probably coaching. Have you also got a teaching qualification? Again nowadays we wouldn't recruit a trainer without one although that's because we deliver a lot of Apprenticeships (including L+D) so come under Ofsted scrutiny. If you are delivering privately then that might not be as big of an issue.

I'm a lead instructional designer. I have a great team. Specific L&D certification can be quite pricey.

I work remotely. Why not look for a role that would suit you better?

How much profit are you making in your buisness? I would think it better to expand that than start again.

I'm head of L&D for a multi academy trust.

I don't have a CIPD qual - but I am a qualified teacher, with a range of HR and management experience, as well as L&D experience.

My main problem is that I'm tired of being self-employed.

I work by myself and it's lonely. Also being the only one responsible for anything. Having to constantly generate business as well as actually deliver.

Maybe I need to tackle that.

What industry is it in? If you have a good client base is your company worth selling to a competitor? Could you go work for a competitor and bring your customers with you?

I can see working alone and generating business + delivery must be tiring but don't loose value of what you have built up so far.

I work as a trainer for a company and I didn't need an L&D qualification as it is not HR related. I did however, do the L&D level 5 myself to enhance my skills and career prospects (wish I hadn't bothered though, super easy and a waste of time and money). So you don't necessarily need a specific qualification, its all about the job you want to do really. What do you train people on?

Currently I train in social media and marketing.

However I'd like to expand that out a bit.
