Two recruiters and same role?

I have been contacted by two separate recruiters over LinkedIn about the same contract role. One I am speaking to in about an hour to hear more, and the other tomorrow. Didn't realise it was the exact role description/location/company until I said yes to speaking to recruiter #2 and they sent me the brief afterwards. The only difference I can see so far is recruiter #2 has quoted the day rate as £10 less than what recruiter #1 said it was.

I did a new qualification earlier this year to add another string to my bow and I'm trying to market myself as a consultant in a fairly niche area, so I'm glad my profile seems to be coming up in searches. Should I say anything to recruiter #1 this morning, or is there any way I can play this to my advantage? The role seems great and the type of contract I'm looking for.

Thanks.

Usually the recruiters ask if you have any other application on-going to suss out if this situation is happening. Each of them will want you to pull out with the other recruiter because it doesn’t look good to present the same CV twice to the end client and also because they want to earn the fee if you get recruited.

If the end client sees your CV twice with two different rates, they would likely only offer the lower one, so I don’t see the advantage of staying with the second recruiter.

I don’t think recruiters like to be in this situation, but they are so cagey about giving details of where the role is it’s their own fault really.

Once you have agreed that a Recruiter is representing you then generally another one can’t.
Do be aware though that sometimes Recruiters will speak to you about a role without actually having it on the books and once you have agreed to let them represent you they will approach the company concerned and say that they have the perfect candidate

Thank you both for replying. I think I’ve been ghosted by recruiter #1. Spoke at 10.30am, he said the hiring manager enquired about the 6 month career break I’ve just taken. I explained (voluntary redundancy/studying for new qualification). He was quite short and said “oh, I thought you were currently working”. I said no, just interviewing for now however this does mean I am available for immediate start for the right role (I’ve already made it very clear on my LinkedIn I’m seeking new opportunities).

He said he’d call back in 30 mins after communicating this with the hiring manager. He hasn’t.

In the meantime another 2 recruiters have contacted me about the same role today. Shall I just walk away from this one? If the hiring manager doesn’t want to consider me I don’t want to seem desperate by trying to “get seen” via multiple recruiters - surely my name would be mud if I did this 😂

advice welcomed!

I once applied for a role with recruiter A, and then got ghosted. Saw a similar role with recruiter B and applied for that, without knowing it was exactly the same role. When recruiter B put my CV forward he asked if I'd already applied and I explained I'd applied for a similar role without knowing the organisation. It turns out the hiring manager had seen my CV from recruiter A and wanted to interview but was told I was no longer looking for work!

Got the job through recruiter B in the end, no idea what A was playing at.
