Struggling with interview process in my workplace and have failed interview on my third application for a similar post. this seems to be a confidence issue, I research the right stuff then mention none of it at interview and talk nonsense!

has anyone else been in a similar situation and has any reassuring advice?

Can you find a course that teaches you practical interview skills? That needs to be the focus of your prep, you seem to know your stuff. How much do you practice? I write out answers to questions, then walk around the house talking to myself practicing them until they trip off my tongue, not word for word but hitting all the key points I want to hit. Then I would video myself or practice with DH if I needed to up the confidence. I would also suggest a psychological trick, like imagining yourself as superwoman or something - embody the characteristics you want to portray. Good luck.

I find with interviews, it helps if I write down in a notebook all the things I research and all the points I want to say about my experience/relevance for the role. (For me, writing it down helps me to remember it). If I start to get stuck I'll have a quick look at my notes to get me going again.
I also write down a list of questions, try add a few extra than just 3 or 4 because often some questions will be answered just through your conversation.
The question I always finish on is, what is your ideal candidate for the role? And when they tell me, I respond back with why I feel I am that person and give an explanation on why (such as an example of how I meet that criteria of what they're looking for)... that question usually goes down well and it also gives you an opportunity at the end to remind them briefly on why you're great for this role!
Good luck for your next opportunity 🤞🏻

Have you asked for interview feedback?

Is it competency interviews? If so, practise the STAR technique (tbh star is good for all types, so practising it is useful)

If getting flustered and forgetting is a problem, take brief notes in with you: it's not an exam! Just don't write so many that you spend 10mins rifling through your papers per question!

Look up the STAR method and how to use it - then write scenarios that show how you know about each topic. I find that helps keep you on track when answering questions and allows you to bring in relevant evidence that you have the skills/experience they want.

I had a feedback session with the recruiter after I'd not got through again. Her advice was invaluable and I got the next role I applied for. Maybe ask the recruiter if they'd be willing to do this?

Thanks all! I tend to write out my notes and then my DH would “interview” me to test my knowledge. It tends to be when the interview questions are put into scenarios and I need to decipher what topic is being questioned I struggle.
im never sure about taking notes into interviews I do often treat it as an exam - probably making it harder for myself.
I will definitely speak with the recruiter and try to get some feedback

That's a great question @CC222, and a great way to remind them of how all your skills fit the role.
