Too pushy to ask about an interview?

Saw a job I really like look of, closing date was listed as midday today. Advert read that they would offer interviews on an ongoing basis and they reserved right to close the post early if they found the right candidate so I got my application in a week ago to be in with a chance.
The advert stated interviews will take place on Monday in person.
I’ve just gone on to refresh the details of the post as so excited about it, and see that the advert is now saying a new closing date of 23rd May 🤷‍♀️they’ve obviously extended
it today, I’m guessing because they don’t have enough good applicants to interview on Monday.

my question is:
do I email tomorrow to ask politely if they are still holding interviews on Monday as i see the closing date has been extended? I do need
to know by end of tomorrow latest because if I was successful being shortlisted I’d need to let
my current employer know on Friday morning I need time off on Monday to attend.

Or do I just assume that as I’ve not been offered anything it’s likely I’ve not been taken forward and I’ll just embarrass myself calling or emailing?

I’ve had so many knock backs lately
my confidence
is low so wanted to check before doing anything.

thank you 😊

It's possible that they haven't shortlisted yet as they simply haven't had time. No harm at all in calling and asking though. Don't assume the worst 😉. Good Luck!

Could you book the time off in anticipation, then if you don't hear anything, cancel the leave?

Absolutely no harm in enquiring though, and I think it could help to show your interest.

As a recruitment advisor- I recommend emailing: pestering in a polite manner
it gets you seen

Thanks!
Should I mention I’ve
noticed the closing date has been extended or does that just make me
look desperate?!
Is it Better if I just say “I was wondering if you could let me know if I’ve been successful in being shortlisted for an interview as I noted from the advert that they are taking place on Monday and I’ll need to arrange time off from my current role
before Friday to attend if I am”

Oh thank
you! wasn’t sure if I’d be annoying by pestering or seen as passionate for the role 😂

Sadly not, if I book the time off for Monday it will need to be all day as it’s in a city 2
hours from me and I can’t cancel a
whole day’s
leave with less than 24 hours notice in my current place of work.

Don't write this as it's far too presumptuous. Just query about the extended apply date and whether submissions made before the initial closing date are still being considered etc etc. Something like that to get an idea of where they are in the process. You'll be jumping all the guns by talking about prospective interview dates clashing with your leave!!

So I emailed the above
suggestion last night and heard nothing back by close
of
play today. I think I’ve not got
an interview on Monday? ☹️Very short
notice now I think sadly so I’m probably not successful. Really really loved the sound of the role
and felt it matched my skill set.
can any recruiters advise me why the advert would
state they’d offer
intwrviews on an ongoing basis, reserve right to fill post before the closing date, set interview date for Monday and then extend the
closing date by a week?
i find it all a bit confusing but maybe it’s normal in recruitment?
all my other roles have had a closing date, you hear within a few days if successful for being short listed and offered an interview about a week later 🤷‍♀️
Thanks, hoping this might help me
stop wondering and refreshing my
emails!

It could be anything. We’ve done similar when the main recruiter/interviewer had to take some time of sick over the deadline window so we just extended it as no one was looking at the applications until she was back.

The ongoing interview wording might be there just in case and they’ve not acted on it.

I wouldn’t read into it but see if you hear tomorrow, and if not pick up with them on shortly after the new deadline date.

Thank you so much. I’ll try and stop thinking about it until tomorrow!
