In the last two interviews for admin roles I was asked what I think are the key traits/skills required to be a good administrator? Can anyone help me with a good answer to this interview question please ? Thank you so much x

Bit obvious but number one I woujld say excellent organisational skills.

Also, attention to detail, able to work well with lots of different types of people. Quick to learn new systems.

What do you think are the key traits and skills?

can you link it to any qualities listed in the job description?

done just answer with the word, expand, explain why, give evidence of using/demonstrating it and link it to the job.

when you answer use the star method.

For example: I believe X is the most important trait in a good administrator because Y. X is one of my main skills/attributes/qualities and I’d utilise this in this role because of Z. For example in a previous role (describe the SITUATION) therefore I used X to complete (describe the TASK), I then (describe the ACTION you took) and as a result (describe the RESULT)

Having the ability to prioritize and juggle multiple tasks, especially with competing and/or limited resources, very well.

Agree with organised, also approachable snd build a good rapport with the team/clients. If you answer the phone for example you could be the first contact with your organisation and so their first impression.

I think say 4 or 5 things in case their marking criteria go organised - tick, professional - tick etc. You don't want only one tick when you can get 5 fir example. Have examples ready for each skill you mention.

Same as above but also add ability to communicate with staff and listen work under pressure with forever changing timescales

BenCoopersSupportWren · 17/05/2023 15:42

Someone with excellent organisational skills, the ability to deal calmly and flexibly with changing/conflicting deadlines and priorities, a good communicator whether verbally or in writing, someone can build rapport with colleagues at all levels, who looks for opportunities to improve the efficiency of processes and comfortable with a range of IT systems (Word/Outlook/Teams/Excel at least and/or the Google drive equivalents).

Time management, priorities, flexibility to meet changing deadlines, attention to detail

minisoksmakehardwork · 17/05/2023 16:04

Organisation and communication. Link to examples which show times you've demonstrated these skills.

Thank you so much for replying. It's strange because those are pretty much what I've said in interviews, but I didn't use that as an opportunity to link to my experience as that is not what the question called for. If they said something like "what do you think are the key traits/skills required to be a good administrator and can you give examples where you've had to use those skills/traits?" then I would have linked to my own work experience. But I know for future, so thank you x
