Anyone work as a school cleaner?

What hours do you do? I know most schools are maybe different depending on region. This is a high school.

The job I'm looking at says it's 40 weeks out of the year. Does this mean I'd get some or all of the school holidays?

I have an interview soon and the job post doesn't state the hours, just that it's 20 hours a week, so just wanted to see if anyone else does similar so I can get an idea

Thanks

Not a school cleaner, but a teacher.

Our cleaners are in early in the morning (before 7am) until around 8.30am. They are then back again from 3pm.

They do deep cleans in the holidays when the school is empty.

My mum was a school caretaker for many years. Normally, the cleaners were in before and after school. Deep clean in the summer holidays (Usually about 4 / 5 days. Sometimes spread over half days for 2 weeks) maybe in a couple of days over Easter and Christmas but not always.

I did it part time but it was 2h after school and a week in the summer, at 20h I imagine it's 2h before and after. You don't normally get to pick when in summer you work.

I am a cleaner at a high school. The cleaners who work 20 hours do 6.30-8.30am and 3.00-5.00pm Monday to Friday. We are on a 43 week contract . The school year is 38 weeks so we have to work 5 extra weeks during the holidays doing a deep clean ie 20 hours during the Easter hols, 20 hours during half term etc. we can be very flexible on our holiday clean ie do the 20 hours over 2.5 days so you get the rest of the school hols off to enjoy! You will be expected to go in on a PD day but again we can go in at 6.30 and be finished by 10.30 as there are no pupils in. Hope that makes sense!

We have a cleaner and a caretaker. They agree the date of the summer deep clean between them so there is definitely some flexibility- although the caretaker less so as he has to open up for the various trades that also need to come in!

Thanks for your reply's. I have an interview on Wednesday. I'll ask them what the hours are. I'm not sure it would suit. My husband doesn't finish until 4pm so I'd be looking to start at 5-5.30pm but if it's earlier than that I don't think I could do it Confused unless there's some flexibility and they can let me start later

My mum does, she works 3.30-5.30pm and someone else does 6.30-8-30am. The caretaker has to lock up after she leaves, so wouldn't be able to come later, so they might not be keen on flexible hours, but worth asking.

In the holidays the usually do a few full days of deep cleaning, then get most of the holiday off.

Hello.
I've just started a school cleaner job with no real experience - however I have cleaned a 'pack away' nursery before so I do have some idea of cleaning.

Just out of interest how many rooms are school cleaners expected to clean in the time they have?
I work 4 to 7 (3 hours) - but in 2 hours 15 minutes I'm expected to clean 6 classrooms, 2 corridors and 2 learning areas. Is this enough time do you guys think or is not enough time? I personally think it's not long enough at all especially if the room is messy - but I don't have experience so I'd appreciate your thoughts.

I do want to clarify that the rest of that 3 hours is spent cleaning the toilets.
